so we get jones, atl gets wilson?

jones has just appeared from nowhere

He really hasn’t. He’s been the best quarterback in college football this season. People just assume he’s only performing well because of his surrounding talent but there’s so much to like about Mac. Dude transitions through progressions seamlessly, hangs in the pocket until the last second to deliver strikes, and has above average arm talent. He’s a top 10 pick in almost any draft ever.

I’m waiting on someone to tell me what his glaring flaw is

Best quarterback in college football or quarterback of the best team in college football?

That's kind of an important distinction to make because the list of Alabama / Saban quarterbacks that have gone on to successful NFL careers is a pretty damn short one

No way we pass on Wilson for Lance.

This is their rationale.

Trey Lance does everything well. He's athletic, strong-armed, smart, and is a leader. The problem is that he didn't play this season (save one showcase game) and only has one season playing FCS football. But if you're a patient organization with a succession plan in place (like, say Teddy Bridgewater on the roster and playing well), Lance will be an attractive option, even inside the top 10.

That's...not a good take.

No way could I see taking a guy who didn't play this season over a guy whose play is moving him up the draft boards.

Somebody said he has a noodle arm

but id like us to have a qb who can actually run a play on time, and can hit a receiver in stride

we've had neither for yrs

Lol just goes to show people really will say anything without having a fuging clue as to what they are talking about. Jones best trait is his arm

He's been the best QB in college football this year, not sure how it can be argued

There's this guy named Trevor Lawrence...

Also Justin Fields, Zack Wilson...

I've seen a lot of people discussing the best quarterbacks for next year's draft. Haven't seen a single one suggest Jones is number one.

Best QB in college football does not mean the best professional prospect. Jones is completing like 80% of his passes and Alabama is scoring every possession at this point. He'll probably walk away with the Heisman Trophy because of this. Fields still throws a lot of INT's. But for the record, I think there are five first round QB's in this draft and here is how I would rank them:

1) Lawrence

2) Fields

3) Wilson

4) Lance

5) Jones

So I still have a chalky top five in terms of professional prospects. But people acting like Jones would be some huge reach probably aren't in touch with reality. He's a top-10 pick in almost any draft ever.

For the record, I'm not the world's biggest Trevor Lawrence fan, but if you ask pretty much any analyst to name the best QB in college football that's 99% likely to be the answer.

And again, things like completion percentage and scoring on every drive can be used to say "quarterback on the best team" more clearly than they can "best quarterback".

That's not to say Jones is bad, but the best? You're not gonna find a whole lot of support for that,

Ok say we are sitting at pick 6 the latest mock I seen had the bears trade up ahead of us to take Wilson I really don’t think lance is nfl ready for a top 10 pick if this is the last year we could be picking in the top 10 why wouldn’t you go after the QB you want. Say the jets are happy with Bradford and they want to put more talent around him which I have herd some jets fans say... what would it take to get to the number 1 pick and we could spice this up and throw cmc in the trade.

This is one of those mock draft guys wanting Wilson in Atlanta, so they come up with some BS justification that we are going to take Jones over Wilson.  Every year we see this.  Some of these mock drafts have one or two head scratcher.  Usually they are justifying a player to one team so their Fav. team gets who they want.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
