Hayward suffers broken bone in hand

Your finger can become fractured when an object, like a ball, hits the tip of it and forces it to bend down. This type of injury is sometimes called “baseball finger” or “mallet finger.” The injury can pull the tendon in the finger away from the bone.

Treatment for a finger avulsion fracture is a little more complex than with other bones. You’ll need to keep the finger stable so you don’t injure it further, but you don’t want to keep the finger so still that it loses mobility. Your doctor might refer you to a hand specialist to make sure you get the right treatment.

You’ll most likely have to wear a splint on the affected finger for a few weeks to hold it straight until it heals. Once it heals, physical therapy can help you regain movement and function in the finger.

In certain cases, surgery will be required to treat the injured finger. Surgery will involve a surgeon inserting pins in the bone to hold the pieces of bone together while they heal. Depending on the nature of the injury, it may also involve stitching together a torn tendon.

I rewatched Hayward's minutes from Monday. No play stood out where he would have hurt the finger.  Around 7:03 of third he kind of reached back and his finger might have gotten caught in a jersey.  But he hit a three after it and continued to play until 4ish left in quarter.  He didn't seem to be favoring it.  So hoping it is a tape it up and pain management type of injury.

if this keeps him off the court opening night, its serious...he needs to be on the frigging court

just unbelievable

He played with it Monday night at some point. I feel he is day to day through preseason and will be starting against Cleveland next week.

Sounds like promising update today from Borrego.

Rod Boone (@rodboone) Tweeted:
James Borrego on Gordon Hayward's finger injury and if he'll be ready for the opener: "He's very optimistic right now, we're very optimistic. I don't want to speculate on opening night. He's already feeling better." https://twitter.com/rodboone/status/1339621471510016003?s=20

    • Having trouble finding all these articles saying the Raiders withheld information. Here’s the latest from Crosby’s surgeon: ElAttrache told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Wednesday morning that Crosby was "doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program." "We truly respect the work of the Ravens' staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process," ElAttrache said. "This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear."     So the Ravens excuse is the future risk assessment based on the physical, not that the Raiders withheld information. They found an excuse to save face publicly. They had the right to cancel the trade for no reason at all, but they’re trying to save face with the most acceptable reasoning they can find. I’ve heard and seen the Ravens getting dragged everywhere for this. You know what would be an easy way to put a stop to that if you’re the Ravens and the Raiders were actually the shady ones withholding information? Just come out and say that you were not given all the medical information. But they aren’t saying that. I guess they’re just taking the bullet for the Raiders just because?    Speculation indeed.
    • Two first round picks for a guy with very questionable knees who will be 29 this summer. Yes it is safe to say the Ravens got cold feet.
    • The salary cap is the reason we got Phillips and Lloyd
