It was a shell of Peyton Manning behind the leagues best defense.

Yes - let's build our team around a dominant defense in a throwback to the 1980s NFL and hope that gives us a better chance to win a SB than drafting a franchise QB who is willing and can actually throw down field.

Or we could draft a flashy QB and not build around him for nearly a decade and use up his best years being mediocre as a unit.

Blame it on Rivera and Hurney.  Rhule deserves to have his own flashy QB to build around.

It would be nice. 90% of teams don’t have the luxury of having a fantastic defense, decent coaching staff, and a HOF QB with the right pieces to fit around him.

I put most of the blame on Shula. His offense put the entire burden on Cam. Cam was our #1 rushing option (particularly in short yardage situations) as well as being the QB in a passing offense that was almost exclusively slow developing downfield routes that naturally led to the QB taking a lot of hits. We were truly burning both ends of the candle in terms of the wear and tear on Cam.

Panthers win that game if Shula does even a decent job of calling plays. He literally made 0 adjustments and put in nothing new. The Denver defensive players said as much.

Fair. Norv never really got to use a healthy Cam after the shoulder injury. He was already diminished we just couldn’t admit it
