I don't know about the Panthers, but I do know John Fox didn't believe in franchise quarterbacks, and he sure as hell didn't care about developing them.

Fox's preferred method was to get a quarterback somebody else had already developed by free agency.

He was said to be royally pissed when they spent a high draft pick on Jimmy Clausen.

(to be fair, he was right in that particular case)

How and why did 3 NFL teams hire John Fox

You're gonna be "lauding" the Browns tonight.

Nope! They beat a team that has been on a downward spiral for many weeks! The real test awaits them! Moreover, they haven't proven to have any staying power. If they have years (not even decades) as a top team, I'll give them that respect! One game on any given Sunday doesn't move the needle! They're still not in the upper echelon of elite franchises until they have sustained success!

Fox relied on CBs who grabbed and redirected WRs, and safeties who speared WRs in the hopes of knocking them out or knocking the ball loose, and that allowed him to bring in game manager QBs and get decent results.

The rules have changed to prevent Fox-ball. All CBs get roasted regularly. Safeties are the sad last line of defense, and they're mostly seen throwing their hands up in the air after giving up a TD. Game manager QBs now mark the teams that are not going to win the SB. You know if your team can win the SB by looking at your QB. We have Teddy, so I know we're not winning the SB during his time here barring a miracle.

To win with today's rules you want to spend your resources on what makes the passing game as explosive as possible. That is priority one. Then you want to build up the defense to the point where good teams can't just put 40 on you every other game. So QB, o-line, weapons, middle of the pack, or a little lower, cheap defense. Save your money on defense, spend it on passing and scoring TDs in the air.

Draft a rookie QB, upgrade the o-line in the draft, and replace expensive defensive players with low round rookies or reasonably priced journeymen. If the QB pans out in the long run, then you have a SB threat every season. If he doesn't, then you draft another one with your high pick.

Let me guess, you also pull for Golden State. Boring.

Underdogs in the NFL playoffs make it interesting. Unless it's the Panthers making it every year, I want variety in my playoffs.

I actually hate Golden State, but I don't mind good players winning at least once.

I wanted Harden and Westbrook to get one, but it doesn't look like that's happening in either case!

    • With Schoen and Dan Morgan being tight I’d figure we knew this was coming and since he is released, Dan didn’t bite.    But, a quick search says this is at least 80% cap related. They have No cap space and save 8 or 9 million with releasing him.  He has been a captain his entire time there. 145 tackles this year.  They are picking 5th with a new staff and looking at Styles. Hitting that age 30 season and had a disc issue last year (meaning 2024) that did not require surgery.  I haven’t really watched him play but he activated the antennae.
    • OK, we are letting our top RB go.  We have Chuba, Etienne, and Brooks.  Imagine a player who could LEGITIMATELY play the slot and back up at RB?  I am sure he'd be a special team player as well.  I noticed him at the combine, and thought, "Here is a late rounder who could stand out as a slot and provide depth at RB. Without further ado....(I know one Huddler who might be able to tell us more about this guy): Navy running back/wide receiver Eli Heidenreich headlined the 2026 NFL Combine for the Midshipmen, running an official 4.44-second 40-yard dash and recording 16 reps on the bench press. Recognized as a versatile, "Swiss army knife" offensive weapon, Heidenreich solidified his draft stock as a potential day three target.    Eli Heidenreich (RB/WR - Navy) 2026 Combine Performance: 6'0" 200 lbs.   40-Yard Dash: 4.44 seconds. 10-Yard Split: 1.55 seconds. Vertical Jump: 35.5 inches. Broad Jump: 10' 0". Bench Press: 16 Reps. Highlights: Showcased as a premier receiving threat from the backfield, having left Navy as the program's all-time leader in receiving yards (1,994). High character.  Smart.  Maybe, just maybe....
