In the meantime, you can view this clip of Saints reporter Jeff Duncan arguing that Sam Mills should be a Hall of Famer.

This was great. Hopefully the inevitable wait for Mills to get in comes to a close soon. Now imagine David Newton trying to make the same endorsement for a player.

Man oh man just another HOF class is always yet the reminder that this franchise has existed for over a quarter century and has yet to have a player drafted here who’s been enshrined.  Peppers will end that ignominious streak in a couple of years but still.  Just him and maybe Smitty one day, but that’s it.  Given 6 to 8 get in a year a team should average around two a decade just by the numbers.  Actually makes the fact we have two Super Bowl appearances impressive.

and no, Luke will not get in, having retired after only 8 seasons.

Luke will get in. And I bet it takes less time than Smitty (if not before Smitty).

Not a lot of guys who hung up the cleats at age 28 in the hall.  In fact are there any?  Won’t make it on first ballot, and after that he’ll be blocked by all these old QBs retiring

I hope you're not a betting man.  Gale Sayers went into the HOF with 7 years with 2 being injured.  Basically 5 seasons worth of productions.

Excerpt from Wikipedia

Quote

Sayers spent seven seasons with the Chicago Bears from 1965 to 1971 though multiple injuries effectively limited him to five seasons of play.  He was known for his elusiveness and agility and was regarded by his peers as one of the most difficult players to tackle.

Not only will Luke get in.  He'll be first year ballot selectee.

Fewer teams in the 70s, less history to compete with.  Not circumstances that help Luke’s case and citing a 43 year old event kind of says it all.

Patrick Willis not getting in is a much better comparison given their career lengths match

Luke is definitely in.  The Hall would lose all credibility if he was snubbed.  He's the GOAT.  End of story.  He was the best defender in the league every year he played, not only for his production, but for the way he made players around him better.
