How close did the Panthers come to getting Stafford? Dang close.

Oh, me either, and I agree...  throughout our history one of the biggest reasons for our inconsistency and struggles has been due to that issue.  So this is both refreshing and welcome.

But, I also find it interesting that we're so openly flaunting our interest in moving on at the most important position on a football team...  I mean, everyone knows how I feel about the Teddy Debacle, but still...  it is interesting seeing it play out as it is.

It tells me that winning is now more important than feelings.

I'm not really confident that was true here in the past.

Wtf does this even mean?

It means that black QBs typically don’t get paid for being awful. They don’t get legit second chances. They certainly don’t get the type of contract he received with his resume. Just like in life, in the NFL, black QBs have to be really good to get those Goff contracts. Look at what Cam had to settle for last year.

Not race baiting, he asked and I answered.

and all of those players started to trail off, rodgers aside but I'm assuming you wouldn't dare make that comparison

They all trail off eventually and usually in their late 30's. Obviously guys like Brees and Brady are outliers but most of these guys are productive a lot longer than the previous generation of QB's were.

Almost every one of those guys had a top 10 passing performance in their last two years in the league. 6 QB's over 35 had top 10 performances this season alone.

Like I said, your 1-2 season take is not going to age well. I suspect Stafford will be productive for another 6-8 seasons. It really depends on how long he wants to keep doing this. Rivers didn't retire because he couldn't keep doing it. He just didn't want to play anywhere but Indy and they wanted to move on. Brady didn't retire when NE moved on. Big Ben doesn’t want to retire this year.

I mean....that is a fuging weird tangent to take but I don't think that reflects the modern NFL. This is literally the golden era of black QB's. Almost every young QB star....is black.

That may have been true historically but that is not true now.

Key word there is star. That’s because that’s what colleges are producing so teams don’t have a choice. But you don’t see black QBs in backup positions getting paid like Mike Glennon. We can take this somewhere else if you want to continue. Don’t want the mods in here on me.

Most of the guys who last into their 30s are pocket passers like Stafford was.

Said it elsewhere: Stafford would have been an ideal fit for the kind of offense Joe Brady runs.

I will say that Big Ben is one that used to be a mobile QB. He intentionally changed his body and playing style years back precisely to extend his career.

We all want these mobile QB's but you also need to make sure they are the Mahomes and Wilson type QB's that don't take a lot of big hits when they run the ball. It does help that you aren't really allowed to destroy those guys like you could at one time.

I would have to look at the numbers more closely to see if I agreed with that. The league has always had overpaid backups. I would want to see if the data backs up your assertion in the past 5-10 years.

What Deacon Jones used to do to guys would be a personal foul now.

8 seasons? For a guy already starting to show single of decline? Lol. This a sunny take, especially given that you just denied this had anything to do with Brady

You can fairly expect three or four quality seasons of play out of Stafford-not complementary of where this organization is
