Cam couldn't throw.

He really couldn't. The reason we went and got Benjamin and Funchess is because he was constantly air mailing guys especially deep outs.

He was just a bad passer especially in clutch plays. He constantly came up short at the end of games when he had to have a completion.

Great football player. Great running threat. Slightly above average passer. He did have a cannon.

Not true at all. Cam became a clutch QB before his shoulder injuries. He made key plays. His arm beat Seattle, NE, Saints, Eagles in prime time.

He did make overthrows but Jake wasn’t any better. His magic was his ability hit Smitty, and then he got complacent and exposed when he couldn’t rely on him. Once he had Tommy John he wasn’t reading the field as well as he used to and he couldn’t force the passes like wanted.

Jake was great in 03/04 but he also had the element of surprise and just enough talent and moxy to get the team to win through fox ball. If Cam was on that 03 squad they’d be undefeated.  Jakes best performance as a leader was in 04 when he legitimately maxed out his abilities to turn the team around. That Jake might have an argument over some Cam seasons, but Newton in his prime? No contest.

You're entitled to your opinion.

I'll take the 03 team over the 15 team. Everyone healthy and Jake wins 7 out of 10 heads up.

Steve Beuerlein was a career 56.9% thrower. Jake Delhomme was a 59.4% thrower. Cam Newton is a career 60.1% thrower.

Sooooo......who couldn't throw again?

As far as clutch, in 140 career games, Cam Newton has 16 4th quarter comebacks and 20 game winning drives. That is 0.114 4QC/GM and 0.143 GWD/GM.

Steve Beuerlein had 13 4QC and 16 GWD in 147 career games. That is 0.088 4QC/GM and 0.109 GWD/GM.

Jake Delhomme had 19 4QC and 24 GWD in 103 career games. That is 0.184 4QC/GM and 0.233 GWD/GM.

Cam also had the best TD% and INT% among the three.

Frankly, aside from Jake being slightly better in the 4QC and GWD drive stats, pretty much nothing you said actually is true.

You're entitled to your opinion.

Prime Jake before the injuries took their toll is the best we've seen.

Just like I'll tell you Bo Jackson is the best RB to ever play. I don't care that he was cut down early due to the hip.

I never said we couldn’t do better than Mitch. We could do worse though which you seem to disagree with.

no i dont disagree.  a pile of sshit could always be smellier, stickier, and with more mass.

Well the 03 team had more talent and depth.  Cam carried the 15 squad on his back with Ted Ginn as his best WR.

The only thing better about the 15 team was Cam, Olsen, Luke(Respect to D. Morgan), and Josh Norman.

Cams out performed Jakes stats pretty much every year he’s been healthy. You say you don’t rank QBs on running ability. So Cam still beats him in passing. Also, it’s not really on Cam to not run the ball and play pocket QB just to prove an arbitrary point. I’ve never understood the notion that he had to play like someone else to show he was worthy.  If Jake could run like Cam, his passing numbers would be worse than they are.

What I will say though is that Rivera took the quickest route to success and overused the RPO to Cams detriment.

Even Jake disagrees with this.

Jake was a borderline top 10 QB at his best. Cam Newton was the best football player in the world at his best.

Love both dudes, but this is no contest. It's like trying to argue that someone other than Smitty is the Panthers best WR or someone other than Peppers is our best DE.

If you're making that a major criteria, you're leaving yourself wide open to Teddy Bridgewater fans.

Me looking for all the Teddy Bridgewater fans.

They do exist.

(or at least trolls pretending to be them do)

Point being though that we've repeatedly shot down completion percentage as a valid measure when it was used to support the notion that Bridgewater was a good quarterback. Using it as a standard now is antithetical to that.

Prime Jake had basically one season that would be in Cam Newton's top 5 seasons.
