It feels fairly certain 1 of the top 5 QBs are there at 8.  Personally hoping it is not Jones.  Ideally Atlanta goes another way than QB and we would be in good shape IMO.  If Jones goes 3 we might get our choice of Lance or Fields but I personally think that is unlikely.

Personally felt Lance looked a little more athletic in his pro day but for me Fields would be obvious pick.  Ive seen him on the big stsge.

I’m okay with Fields or Lance. Super against Jones.

Sorry man, no way.

Lawrence is way better, not close

Fields at two is debatable but I agree based as comp

Mond kills me as he is productive but SO BORING as a prospect

Potential is the key word. Those top three guys have higher ceilings than Trevor, IMO. Trevor is the closest to being at his ceiling already.

I hear you man...I think Lawrence isn't near his ceiling though.  He can get a lot better.

He can but those top three guys have physical and/or football attributes that Trevor simply does not, hence the "higher ceiling" comment. And I don't mean that across the board, moreso they have specific things in their football toolkit that they do better than Lawrence, so if they reach their full potential, they would be better than Trevor is capable of being.

As we know, not many of these prospects reach their full potential.

Yeah, my point is this...on paper Fields is probably #1 in this draft.  Trevor is the least scrutinized player in the draft which is weird.  He had some pretty mediocre games no one is talking about.  That talent is oozing though.  He can be one of the greats but it is not set in stone by any means.  He definitely needs to improve.

Yeah and for all the mechanics shade that gets thrown at the other prospects, Trevor has those issues too.

If he doesn't fix that stuff coming into the NFL, he could easily be the 2rd, 3rd, 4th best guy in this class. It will be up to him to not start reading his own press clippings and buckle in to doing what it takes to be a successful NFL player.

Absolutely, the draft is a crap shoot no matter who you pick.  Everyone is anointing 20 year old guys as “perfect”.   Its easy to see why so many picks don't pan out.

At 20 if someone gave me 20 million dollars to go risk my livelihood playing this brutal game I might take my money and go home.

Yep. Top qb picks (1st round) seem to pan out about 1/4 of the time, thats why packaging so many picks to move up surprises me with some of these teams.

Giving up one additional pick i get, but mortgaging the future for it seems like too small a target to hit. Its poor odds.

The number is actually right at 50% success rate for first round QB prospects since 2000.  FWIW, all other rounds combined is around 10%.  It's been a while since I did the research, but I can't remember off the top of my head any first round with multiple QB's selected that made it to 100% success rate.  Maybe this year is the "golden generation".  Who knows.

The problem teams face now, and the reason why teams are now desperate to find "the guy", is that the NFL has forced this on them.  The rules that allow more scoring all revolve around the passing game, placing greater emphasis on having that elite level QB pulling the strings.

Look no further than our very own Carolina Panthers.  We had eight games last season where our offense had a chance to tie or win the game in the fourth quarter.  We lost all eight.  How much different would our season have been if we could magically swap TB5 for TB12 just for the final drive?

03 was about the closest to 100% with a 75% hit rate.

    • It makes sense. It needs to fit the need. I am ignoring subtlety, but you don’t hire a heavy metal band for a church picnic. I hope.  Fitting needs has been a fuging problem with all the yearly changes in HC, DC, OC, they need to settle that down.
    • For one thing, do you guys think we are gonna be some shootout survivors? Or do you think we still need to limit the other offense?  And why don’t we let the new management decide who is in play at WR, that is here already? I expect a WR to be taken. I still hold to the idea that our QB doesn’t recognize or can’t execute NFL open. It is an issue he needs to get straight. But, I get it and have no issue with 33 or 39 being WR.  If later on we think we can make a great bet on a guy that was overlooked, fine.  But let’s don’t pretend the defense doesn’t need to get buttoned up and if there is a top talent, deal with it.
