I've already said it's possible the Panthers draft a quarterback. I just don't believe they should.

Either option could work out, or either could be a mistake.

Given the choice between whether I hope they do the right thing or do what I want, that's an easy answer.

It would be nice to go into the 2022 offseason NOT wondering how many years this rebuild will last. Sam Darnold is more likely than not going to lead to that sort of mindset. At least with a rookie QB there can be some sort of hope we can trick ourselves into, however fleeting.

He might not be.

But if he is and they don't take him, I'm pretty sure the meltdown by some on here will be biblical.

I think the bulk of the fanbase would be furious about passing on Fields. I don't think the Sam Darnold fan club is as deep as you believe them to be.

I don't really care whose fan club is bigger.

I just wanna see the right decisions made even if the entire fanbase hates them (me included).

Depends on who we get. I’ll live with a LT, might shed a small tear...

I expect to land a good player at 8. The thing I hope we don't end up talking about is how we passed on one of the bright young QB stars of the NFL in 2-3 years while we are still mired in either a QB search or a QB/coaching staff search.

Yeah especially if a team like NE get one below us...  I’m surprised people are die hard against drafting one. We were fooled with Teddy, now we are suppose to be all in on Darnold. I hope he works out, but there is just as good of a chance he doesn’t...

I'll trust the evaluation. Honestly, I'm kinda all in on my avatar. I think Darnold can deliver him.

I'd be ok with that. I'd also be ok with the team trading up for Howell if Darnold is bad, but not bad enough to get a top pick as long as the team as a whole is better, especially if the Oline is fixed.

Even with a rookie QB, we may end up wondering how long the rebuild will take. You could also trick yourself in thinking there is hope if they are making good decisions to give whoever ends up the QB as much of a chance of success is possible. That could mean one of the top two tackles, Pitts, or a top WR prospect.

I'm not in either guy's fanbase, I'm a Panthers fan and want the team to succeed. That said, I don't want them to take another QB at 8. I would much rather put that pick to use on one of the top LT prospects. That position has been a turnstile for way too many years.

I don't think it exists. Sure, people want what's best for the team and hold out hope for Darnold but I think there's very few who truly think he's gonna work out. History doesn't bode well for reclamation projects.

If you just look at the history of top 10 QB's who flamed out at their initial stop, the odds of him panning out are fairly long. As I have said a few times in the post-Darnold era, I understand the homerism/"Hope springs eternal" outlook by the majority of the fanbase. I am just in the same position as I was last offseason around this time, seeing a QB I knew was very unlikely to be the answer we needed and wondering how much farther along the rebuilding path we will be in 2021.

I will say that I genuinely would rather watch the top 4 guys be off the board at 8 than watch us pass up on one. Not matter how much I will like the prospect we signed, I will dread watching the future of whichever of those guys slips past us.

But, maybe Darnold just blows up and proves all this doubt wrong. Wouldn't that be such a nice, easy solution? I just wish I believed in it.

If you think trading up for a QB in this draft was pricey, it might be even worse next season if the class is projected the way it is currently. All that with the prospect of another 2-3 veteran QB's possibly looking at retirement.

The rookie QB situation is always largely hopeful to some extent, even if his doubters are many. It's the fresh, new prospective franchise QB smell. I still think we can end up with an elite player at 8, whether both LT's are gone and/or all top 4 QB's.

People are claiming they will be upset if we draft a QB because we have Darnold. I’ve heard we are an incomplete team, have bigger needs etc...  Hopefully our staff knows better. There aren’t many “complete” teams in the league. Most teams have weaknesses and without a QB we will never be able to compete consistently.

Could be and I wouldn't doubt if you're right. I sort of think the 49ers have broken the market and set a new bar and I hope teams won't be as desperate next year. The 49ers gave way too much up to just get the number three QB in this draft. As for next year's class, there could also be another guy or two that is not being talked about that has a great season that suddenly gets talked about as being a top prospect.

If Darnold is your ultimate answer then you're probably ultimately gonna get fired. Hopefully he will be, but you can't go all in on Darnold and pass up QB prospects that you otherwise would've taken at #8. Sam Darnold isn't a reason to pass on top 10 QB talent.

I'll feel better about how long this is going to last if we can at least close the book on a need coming out of this draft. QBs are by far the riskiest and we just traded away picks for one, so it'll be wait and see.

If they do go QB my hope is that this was an impressive smokescreen and they were secretly in love with whoever fell our way all along.
