Albert Breer also has us taking Fields, believes Tepper is pushing for it.

He's IS a bust looking to resurrect his career. Let's not gloss over three years of terrible play and pretend like he's basically a rookie.

We all exist as a sort of relationship rather than an independent entity, as the mind tends to assume. We know how Darnold played in New York, but part of his play was most certainly the circumstances around him. We don't know what he will or will not be here imho. New coaching, new roster, new outlook, etc.

"The" Sam Darnold of New York effectively no longer exists.

they brought him in for a year to kick the tires.  see what is there.  we got nothing else going on.  I'm cool with that.

this narrative we are all in on Darnold as anything more than the above, should draft around Sam being our QB, etc is what I ain't buying.

I've never said that they are all in on Darnold. I have said they should give him a fair shake with a better team around him and hopefully better coaching than he has had. Unless they draft a QB tomorrow night, they could be planning on giving Darnold that fair shake. We'll have to wait and see. Either way, I'll be glad when the draft is over.

Who is he going to compete with if they don't draft a QB? Walker? Grier? A mid round developmental QB?

Laughing Hard GIF by memecandy

Any of those aren't competition.

Darnold is not solely competing on who is on the immediate roster but against the future QB the Panthers will look to replace him with if he doesn't look good enough. Same way Teddy dropped the ball and has now been shipped out.

that comment was directed at you specifically.

I mean, if they draft a QB tomorrow night, I still expect them to kick the Sam Darnold tires in 2021 and see what he has.

And Brees has us taking Fields per Tepper. Another exchange of opinions. If Darnold had a cloud over his head over Teddy he isn’t going to cut it as a starter in this league...

I don't think that means Darnold had a cloud over that way. I think they meant that Teddy was the starter and since he is gone, Darnold is the starter now. Could be wrong though.

If Darnold plays and proves to be a good starter or franchise guy, any future QB drafted will not be competition just like Grier was never competition for Cam, or Rodgers competition for Favre.

If they draft a QB at 8, they won't kick the tires on Darnold for long, if at all. The pressure to start the rookie will be too high.

Agree, with Teddy as QB1 and Fields as backup or 3rd string, Sam would really need to show something fast in order to preserve his spot on the roster.

If Darnold proves that he is our guy to the Panthers FO then I hope they do build around him. However, until then he will always be competing against who is on the roster or who will be on the roster. At this moment I see little reason to believe he is no different from Teddy when he arrived last season.

Sam means you can bring the rookie in when ready....not out of desperation.   Like was the case with Sam Darnold as rookie.   And if Sam surprises and shines? So be it.   That wouldn't be a bad thing.

Last year all I heard was how much better Brady's system was going to make Teddy. They know what they're getting and they know Teddy can run this system. They're not dumb.

People seem to ignore this. Fitterer states this doesn’t take them out of getting a QB. He also states it allows them to take the BPA or make moves. They didn’t want to go into the draft with any needs...

You remember what time of year this is, right?

The flipside of my statement is that if Darnold doesn't play well and with the way this regime has done QBs, he won't be here long enough to compete with anyone. The only way Darnold has competition this year is if they draft a QB high. Otherwise, the job is Darnold's unless injured.
