Sam Darnold's "Style of Ball"

So what are you implying?

That a Panthers fan's point of view on a Messageboard is correct(and True) and EVERYONE ELSE actually closely involved with the Team is wrong and false?

Come on, CRA.... That is a ridiculous take and you know it.  smh.

Just what I said, reports aren't the gospel.   Lot of times teams want certain things out there.  They will put it out there.   Pretty common in sports.  People use the media.  Teams.  Players.

Darnold was definitely not our first or second choice. Fitts being in on every deal is why we were talking to the Jets early. (Which we thought a second was too much for him originally) I’m sure he has spoke with half of the teams about potential trade targets. I’m feeling a little optimistic about Darnold, but I’m not delusional in thinking we wanted him first the whole time.

Not quite correct. They didn't discuss terms in the initial contact because the Jets wanted to wait. Had they not, the deal might have happened then.

Breer did confirm elsewhere that once the Jets started talking, they suggested a swap of first round picks. The Panthers did balk at that suggestion because at that point, they didn't want to give up the 8th pick.

There were other discussions, and other options, but the Panthers ultimately decided Darnold was their best option.

So not first, but not last. "Second tier" might be the most accurate description.

I just didn't take it for the gospel you did. There was waaaaaay too much talk about a pending Watson trade for there to be no smoke. You just cling desperately to sources that confirm your take. Those are "reports". Everything else is "rumors". That's called "confirmation bias". We all have it, you're just completely blind to yours.

Just like there was "way too much talk" about Justin Fields?

There was a whole bunch of rumor that turned out to be nothing, but cling to that if it makes you feel better.

Neither are fans' opinions on a messageboard.    🤨

But actual team reports are more legit than just opinions so that's why they are taken more seriously than anything posted here.

People that do this are pretty arrogant, that's for sure.

That's a fair point.  Even myself who is strongly rooting for Sam to succeed knows that he was Plan C (after Stafford, and Watson).    No big deal.

So I read the article.  Great post by the way.  The Stafford trade went down in January.  We contacted the jets in February.

It looks like Stafford was the first pitch, but obviously we were way too low... since they got Goff, a third rounder and two first round picks.

When I heard about our offer, I thought there is no way the Lions were going to take that.   Are you saying we knew it would be too low, we were headfaking the jets to say...hey there's plenty of fish in the sea if you don't want to dance?  There may be an element of that....but it sounds a bit of stretch.  I'm not sure why we took the time to lowball Stafford.  But Teddy and a first (even at 8th) just didn't sound like enough me.

The reports said the room was divided. There were people in the organization who wanted Fields. Some felt he was a generational talent. The pro-Darnold faction won out.

But, everything is always black and white with you. "Black" being your take and "white" being literally anything to the contrary.

How can you possibly know it wasn’t the last? We didn’t offer anyone else afterwards so it technically was last, but no one else good was really available...  Your guy Albert Breer who we are suppose to 100% believe in this story was helping push the we might draft a QB story as well. I doubt any of us will know the whole story. I’m not taking one side other than he clearly wasn’t our first. But we should we sit here and believe one journalist and write off another sometimes same journalist article?

go to the Panther confidential thread and tell me what the last name on the board looks like.  I mean, if you had to guess.

I don't see it as a low-ball, it's just what we were willing to offer. We were probably hoping the Niners would low-ball. Honestly, we were always a long shot to land Stafford. To their credit, the Lions actually wanted to do right by him after botching it with Barry Sanders and Megatron. Objectively, the Niners are just a much better situation than we are.

That doesn't fit the narrative. Therefore, it's a rumor. Didn't you read the "report"? Delusional.

Did you know that Sam Darnold is "basically a rookie"? I mean, that's the "report".

    • I miss many of the OGs like @ladypanther Zob had a bad off week and came in here to do some mopping and a couple of the 10 year 15k post account he just banned over a silly disagreement, just odd behavior from Zob. A Pessimal deal happened with Lady and others. I tired to find a new forum and could not get around the signing up part...same for discord. Its not perfect here by any means, but I still feel welcomed here for the most part and this place does have the most freedom. I hate how the right vs left BS nearly cooked this place, I still believe in removing the litterbox, toxic as hell and lollolols @ anyone coming into a team forum to talk about pointless politics of the uni party turds.  @Bear Hands you saved this place with your activity. It helped offset the lost of OGs and the knowledgeable that leftd.    It would help for new members and I do get the spammers deals, just got to mod them away and hope opening the door brings in fresh blood.
    • Young went to bama and Brissett went to nc state.
    • That seems about right. No higher than that for a bottom third qb with two years left, including one expensive year. He played well enough last year to show he is startable. It depends on whether other teams thought he has any upside left and whether he's been hindered by coaching and surrounding cast. I think most teams would answer no, but if they thought he could step it up just a little I could see trading a fourth or fifth for a bridge guy/top tier backup.
