Stephon Gilmore: Why this was such a slam dunk

Jeff Howe and Joe Person confirmed that the Panthers want to keep Gilmore beyond just this season.

All indications are that they also want to keep Donte Jackson.

How?

Feels good to also finally have a cap guy in Sulaiman who knows wtf he is doing.  We are living in a dream right now.

Likely a 5th round comp pick. Because of his position and how long he's been in the league. I agree with everything else though. I do think they will try to resign both Donte and Stephon.

I was going to point this out, but still, we'd be trading a 2023 6th round for a 2023 5th AND get 10 games (13 if you count playoffs!) out of a top-notch CB for cheap.

Your comment is confusing.

Obviously none of us here could have predicted this, but it is easy to see expected or predicted outcomes of this.

Im saying in response to people that come on here and say: "hey, well there is no O linemen available for trade!"

Nobody knows this for sure on here as this information isnt announced to everybody so its not a reasonable response to the discussion.

Best Case Scenario: Gilmore returns to former self, resigns with Panthers

Worst Case Scenario: Gilmore plays out rest of year, 2023 6th round pick upgrades to 5th round comp pick

That's how I took it. I honestly think that had we known that Gilmore and (especially) Henderson had been available, FOR THIS PRICE, on draft day there is a much better chance of Slater being our pick.

as many four and five DB sets as snow uses in his system it's a great allocation of resources to keep three very good corners on the team

3? I say, keep em all. If possible. CJ, and Jayce are here. DJ and SG are keepers. Bouye? Should be a keeper as well. That's my lineup. You  couldn't pry  it out of my cold dead hands.

    • Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning. And, I took 7 naps before lunch. I'm losing it guys! Jarvy's Jaunty Band of Jaggoffs are getting more play than he is... smh Team Canada doesn't treasure Jarvis the way he deserves. He should take his band down to Liechtenstein, get a bag of passports, and start his own Olympic team! The raw animal magnetism of Jarvilicious will bring in a handful of NHLers on its own. And, since the IOC believes in collective punishment, he could have his pick of the rookies. Then, just fill out the rest of the roster with the maple blooded great white northerners who couldn't make the top squad. Can't trust this assembled awesomery to just any old Liechtensteinien with a clipboard and a whistle. Gotta bring in a legend worthy of this gold medal gambit. A hockey HOFer with the balls to buck the system and the aura to match our maverick. Huere geil, Vaduz!!! 2030 Gold Medal guaranteed!
    • Tennessee isn't trading a QB on a 2nd round contract that has starting experience.  That's bad business.
    • OT is the top priority as it is both an immediate and future need.  I wouldn't be past trading up slightly to get the guy we want.  You need that rookie contract right now.  Icky is a dead 17.5 million for the season.  Morton is 20+ mil for the season, Hunt is 20+ mil for the season.  There needs to be forward thinking regarding the future.   Caleb Lomu is a left Tackle, he's a solid prospect, he may be the best pick for us now and in the future.  I would seriously consider cutting Hunt after 2026, and let Lomu and Icky fight for the LT job, loser moves inside.  Icky's future may be at guard after this injury anyway.  If Damien Lewis keeps up his level of play he will need to be paid sooner rather than later.  Yosh and BC can be our top two depth OL at an affordable price.  You will need to look at OT again in 2027. Getting an EDGE for the sake of getting an EDGE outside of the top 10 is pretty risky.  I wouldn't be against eyeing someone like Cashius Howell, Derrick Moore, or TJ Parker in the 2nd (even if we trade a future pick to move up) or DDS in the third. I'd love to see us try to sign both Leo Chenal and Matt Millano in FA.   Chenal for the blitzing element we are missing from our LB corps and Millano for his elite coverage.  They could both work in tandem.  Remember, our FO has deep ties to both KC and Buffalo. I love thinking about the draft, but until Free Agency hits, we are clueless.  Looking at the strength of FA and the draft, OL is priority #1, LB #2, and EDGE #3.  We know what happens to Bryce when protection falls apart.
