We put Gilmore on Pitts.  We put Gilmore on AJ Green.  We have been putting Gilmore on the biggest threat of late situationally when it mattered.  Not Jackson.  Because again, Gilmore is hands down the best DB in Carolina.

and Gilmore was on the field in the first half on the plays McLaurin hit the big plays.  It's why the snap count excuse Rhule threw out there was bogus.  And of course, they made the obivous correction in the 2nd half.

You can go read threads on this forum before the Washington game...where it was talked about why this should be a win for us.  It specfically talked about us having Gilmore and the ability to neutralize McClaurin.  Which was the key to stopping Washington's O.   That's not hindsight.   Claiming it is hindsight is just breaking your back bending over to defend Matt Rhule and poor coaching/gameplan they came out with.

They put him on Pitts on certain downs.. He didn't cover Pitts all game!!

You do know this right?? Snap counts don't match up...

Gilmore has been a part time player and only after Sunday's game did "He" say he is now ready for a full load...

You coming up with Madden strategy after the fact with adding any context....

you literally somehow ignored the part in the post where I said We have been putting Gilmore on the biggest threat of late situationally when it mattered" .    That has been the case in every game of late, except the first half of the Washington game.    We did it with Pitts, we did it with AJ Green, and we did it in the second half with McLaurin.

again, the snap count arguement is bunk.  Gilmore was on the field on all those big plays McLaurin hit.   Because those are the type downs we use him on.  And we went back to using Gilmore properly in the 2nd half.  Which is what we have been doing with Gilmore since he got back on the field.

It was clearly a coaching decision to alter what was working and was obivous going in.  The staff opted to use Jackson in the first half on McLaurin over Gilmore in the situtions that called for Gilmore.   Gilmore was on the field.  The coaches mindbogginly thought Jackson was a better option because he is fast.

And the second half, they admitted to their coaching mistake.   And went back to getting Gilmore to solve the biggest threats situationally.

Look Gilmore is amazing but he doesn’t have the speed to chase scary Terry all over the field. That’s why DJ was on him for better or worse

only we know that isn't true.  The Panthers altered the plan in the 2nd half.   Gilmore did cover Scary Terry in the 2nd half.

So go pull Scary Terry's first half numbers vs second half numbers.  Elite top 3 DB play > average DB play + elite speed

Again nobody here didn't think DJ couldn't handle the assignment..

You're coming up with this plan after the fact.. When reality before the game nobody here had a problem putting DJ on Mcclarin..

Reality check for 10 games this season DJ been playing near a pro bowl level...

Why the fug would you think he couldn't do it before the game??

This is stupid..

So it's the coaches fault that Sam Darnold sucks and can't read defenses??

That the equivalent of saying if players play like crap its coaching!! What??

That leaves no room for players to ever take accountability something Reddick just said needs to happen...

I already told you, it isn't hindsight.  It was discussed on this board before the game.   We have a top 3 DB in Gilmore.  He was the play on McLaurin.   Just like he was on every top threat when it mattered the weeks prior.

DJ hasn't been playing like a Pro Bowler.  The Jets, Giants, Texans, Eagles, Atlanta games?   Not a single one of those where the narrative of Pro Bowl Jackson was formed featured him shutting down any QB/WR pass connection of note.  They all were horrible pass offenses that were matched up vs  an elite pass rush.   And Jackson was tasked with covering weak WRs.

McLaurin ate his lunch.  Theilen ate his lunch.   So basically he has one actual good game to his name this year.  Dallas.  I mean we if we talking Pro Bowl caliber play, that is deterined in select games.   I mean, Dallas did whatever they wanted to our D that game.  But he technically wasn't roasted by Lamb.  That's not Pro Bowl DB play on display.

Jackson is a decent DB.  If you have Gilmore? The play was obivous.  You play the top 3 DB on the stud their O goes through.  The coaches botched the first half.  We all saw the results.  Then they fixed it after the half.

How could anyone argue otherwise lol. Way too much black/white thinking going on here.

The players made errors and went out of pocket AND ALSO the coaches had a poo game plan vs their offense. Hell they even snitch on themselves earlier in the season saying poo like "they did things to us we didn't see on film". Uh...yeah....thats called every game that will happen they are trying to attack  you not other teams they done played....ofc you have to be able to self evaluate and see where/how they would attack your team and then adjust to what they are doing to you.

You’re not factoring in that they realized they could run at will in the 2nd half and essentially didn’t have to throw the ball

Yes.  Two things can be true.  The players AND the coaches can be both take fault in that game.  Specifically defensively.

not sure why some want it one to fall only on one and excuse the other.

    • Then don't tune in. It's really not a hard concept to understand, if your making your decision based on your own personal needs/feelings as opposed to what is best for the future of the franchise, then it's a you problem, not a Panthers problem. When the season is already lost, every fan should be rooting for the same thing.  The team plays hard until the final whistle of the season and keeps improving as a team and individually, but in the end, we still come up short and lose games, and preferably because the other team beat us, not because we screwed up and found a way to lose due to our own fault. Look at it this way... If we are up 1 or 2 points with 3 seconds left in the game and the other team is lining up for a FG.  Beyond the joy of victory or the disappointment of defeat, what impact does the other team making or missing the FG have on our team the following season? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING Except where we draft and what teams we play due to our finish in the division. The players and coaches on the team would have the exact same level of improvement and learnings about themselves individually and as a team whether the FG is made or missed.  The ONLY difference in the end is the record in the standings and if the win or loss number changes. If you want to argue if making the playoffs to lose in the first round or just missing them is better or worse, that's totally fair and I can at least understand the other side of it.  But in what is already a lost season, if you're not hoping your team plays well but ends up losing, then you're cutting off your nose to spite your face.  You're hoping for a moment of happiness at the detriment of the franchise's future, and in turn, you're basically then happy for a moment to only set yourself up for future further disappointment.
    • If we’re eliminated I want the wins more.   The season is already a disappointment and if I’m not pulling for wins why bother to tune in?
    • Two things terribly wrong with this post. First is that not one time has myself or anyone else agreeing with me said that the team themselves should think that way or try and lose for positioning.  Never once have I suggested the team should purposefully lose games, ever.  I honestly can't understand why people keep saying this in posts, not one fan has ever said the players should or would purposefully try to lose. And second, is yes, that has happened and it's happened very recently.  The 2020 Bengals were 4-11-1 and then were playing in the SB the very next season.   And while it might have been 2 years later and they didn't quite get to the SB, the 2021 Lions were 3-13-1 and then the 2023 Lions were up 24-7 at halftime of the NFC Championship game. The season between those two? They finished 9-8 and only just missed the playoffs. Which is why I keep trying to compare us to the Lions in where we are at in our re-build.  Throw out Bryce's rookie year with the Reich staff who just didn't work out and he looked god awful.   This past season when we were 5-12 in Canales' 1st season is that 2021 season for the Lions and their 1st season under Campbell.  This year is their 2022 where they grew a ton and Campbell's culture building was clear, where I'm saying we'd likely be better off in the long run if we go 8-9 or 9-8 and just miss out on the playoffs (which is still a significant improvement from last year).  Then our 2026 is their 2024 when we have a chance to be a real contender after adding a few more pieces and our key players having another year of experience under their belts.
