I forget who, but someone previously referred to Rhule as Marty Hurney's final "f--- you" to the Panthers.

Starting to sound like an accurate description...

Sadly true. It's the FU that keeps giving new FUs.

That's David Tepper's fault.

Fitterer and Morgan both have something that Matt Rhule does not, and that's a several years long track record of success in the NFL.

But Rhule is the one that Tepper gave final authority. Hell, he wanted to pair a newfangled analytics type GM (thankful that didn't happen).

Tepper just seems like one of those guys who wants to do something differently just so he can say he's the smartest guy in the room...except he's not. And there's a reason why people have been doing things the way they have for so many years, because that way works.

Best thing he could do for his team now is to stay out of that next big decision and leave it to people who actually have some experience in this sort of thing.

Bottom Line: Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Well said. Never thought about it this way. Things may be going differently if the GM was calling the shots but Tepper chose the head coach as king.

Because it was reported that Hurney took the negotiations to the next level and Tepper admitted he was a bit along for the ride. Typical for a new owner. Why does everyone now naturally assume owners are in charge of hiring coaches? Most don't and it's the GMs responsibility. It's just like this year with the draft. Tepper wanted a LT but allowed his staff to draft. Better or worse he doesn't micromanage.

lol

you literally just answered your own question. First year owner. And do you really think he has no input? you think Cam was a Rhule move? Tepper has his hands in this franchise more than anyone will believe. It's his team.

I said when it happened that it made me wonder whether Rhule was completely comfortable with his job security.

Signing Cam was a "win now" move for a coach who felt he really needed to win now.

For what it's worth, I agreed with the move in part because it meant Newton would only have to deal with the wear and tear from the back half of a season.

Goodness you guys are just making crap up now. Do you think Tepper as an owner if he meddled and the choice of Justin Fields and Horn would pick another CB? If he was an micomanger would he bring in a new GM or roll with Hurney who was a yes man. Come on people quit making poo up.

I think it was easy to infer from Tepper that he really wanted them to draft a QB but Rhule convinced him he could work with Darnold.
