Wait, it doesn't take 7 years to make a winning team?!?!?!??!?!?!?

you mean before Fox came in? And then the year after we found our franchise QB. SAme with Rivera.

The one thing the NFL has constantly shown is that HCs go down with their QBs, and succeed with them as well.

Do you think Matt Rhule is capable of finding that franchise QB? Do you think Matt would have taken a chance on Delhomme or Cam? I think its more likely that he would have traded picks for like Ryan Leaf or drafted Blake Bortles.

It’s not Matt rhules job to find talent. We hired Dan Morgan to do that for a reason.

marty hurney picked those players above. Not fox and not Rivera.

I think the makeup of the team is critical. Taking Burrow may have been a no-brainer. But go back to the draft this year, the no-brainer was to take a tackle. They took a risk to go with a star their QB wanted and it paid off. I don't know that that team makes the playoffs if they draft a tackle instead.

I just want the team to win. It's incredibly frustrating knowing that the process for this team is to maybe, possibly be good somewhere around 2025. Any period of time where I have to be jealous of Bengals fans isn't going to be a good time.

I think the real difference is between us and the Bengals is that we lost a lot of our star players instead of adding to them.  Keuchley, Bradberry, Olsen and Newton's injuries were some key factors.  Of the last 4 seasons under Rivera, only one was a winning season.  the phenomenal talents of Newton and McCaffrey hid some glaring gaps and as they faded, so did our Wins.

They drafted a stud QB1

we took Derrick Brown

It takes more than that though. Herbert is much better than Burrow yet the Chargers sucked this year. It all starts up top, you need competent HC and GM to build a team around that franchise QB, Tepper has no ability to hire those people

Ok, purely hypothetical here.

Before last season, Panthers hire another coach. You think we roll in to last season with Teddy as QB, and this year with Sam? I don't. I think Rhule has played a significant role in putting together the roster. I think if it was mostly Marty Hurney making the decisions, he would have sold the farm for Herbert last year.

Matt Rhule would’ve broken the bank for Marques Tuiasosopo in 2007, and in 2003 he would’ve traded a ton of picks for Tim Couch.

Chargers were a winning football team this year….and would have been a postseason season team if a OT FG was missed the last game of the season.

we suck.  The Chargers didn’t suck this year.   Chargers disappointed.

Snow and Rhule wanted Sam and got him.   Not Dan Morgan.

Cam Newton was a Panther ultimately because Ron wanted him.

I’m not going to jump into a “what if” conversation bc i honestly don’t have the energy or attention span at this moment.

as for Herbert, there legit wasn’t a trade up partner outside of the giants. We both know David gentleman probably didn’t even pick up the phone when we called.

Y’all need to just realize this team’s ceiling is 5-12, and for the next 3-4 years the ceiling is 3-14 or 2-15. Embrace the trades of popular, successful players for draft picks that turn out to be colossal busts. Lean into the skid of 0-17. Live with Rhule’s incoming contract extension. Welcome the trading of the next year’s first-round pick every year as it turns into the No. 1 overall pick.

    • Yeah okay. We as an organization have been more patient with him than many. And there has been a small parade of guys drafted since he was, also to bad teams, that have passed him. Some have lapped him. As a fan I am out of patience but he gets this year it is out of my hands always has been. I just hope the bar is higher than it has been for him.    FWIW, XL dropped two passes last year. He did do some other bad stuff, just saying.
    • Except it takes those QB's a few years to develop because they needed to learn the mental side of the game and have it catch up to their physical attributes. Bryce was supposed to be a QB savant who already had a fully developed mental side of the game and that was going to make up for his lack of physical ability.  And his lack of NFL level QB physical traits has been clear as day to anyone who has watched him the last 3 years, mainly, he just doesn't have an NFL arm, he can't zip the ball into tight spaces or throw on a line down the field like is needed at this level.
    • Don’t recall seeing many of his interviews but what strikes me is that he engages and goes in depth. Even with the cliche answers as referenced by OP come across somewhat thoughtful.  Very likable personality despite being someone who can crush an average person like I can crush a paper cup. I knew Motons mother had a career at MSU but was looking on the google and found that Mushin Muhammad personally knew Motons grandfather.   His late grandfather was a professor at MSU.   Cool guy.  Interesting family and small world.
