You’re projecting your own distaste for Matt rhule onto what you think the team should be doing, not that it makes any sense because no organization would simply resign themselves to 5-8 win season without making corresponding moves to prepare for a rebuild.

how will you rationalize all this when players aren’t given away in a firesale? How will you rationalize when the panthers sign players in free agency?

what you’re doing doesn’t exist. Dave tepper isn’t saying to himself, “we spent so much money Sam darnold, our cap, our precious cap, Rhule MUST swallow his medicine.”

it isn’t real. It’s a fantasy conjured by stupid fans who obsess over trivial things like the salary cap as if they personally paid money into it.

I mean I greatly dislike Matt Rhule.

But this concept has nothing to do with that.   My opinions aside, even a Panther writer under the organizational thumb like Gantt acknowledges Matt Rhule is being viewed as a hot seat coach.  He did so this week.

I mean NFL history shows it is real.  It has shown the concept I explained happens all the time.   Will it happen here? Well, who knows....because well, David Tepper doesn't look like much of an owner.

When you have a coach on the hot seat or is a lameduck...he doesn't get the same operational room and power(or at least shouldn't) as a coach that isn't.  That isn't a fan fantasy.

Agree completely.

Unfortunately, I've yet to see any solid indication that Matt Rhule's power and control is going to be reduced in any way before next season.

yeah, it’s pending you actually have a good front office.  Our own is David Tepper. And as today, you can’t call him a good owner.

so it is worrisome how Tepper will allow Rhule to operate while on a hot seat.

Why don’t you name some of these instances of All The Time?

let’s break them down.

You want me name all the head coaches in NFL history who have been on the hotseat or were entering lame duck seasons?  Who then had their hands tied in terms their ability to make hires? Sign players? Draft guys?

no thanks.   We can go Carolina centric.  We can talk about the last time it happened here.  The year was 2010.   The coach was John Fox.

No, I want you to name all the teams with 1st or 2nd year (or even just under the general purview of new) head coaches who spent millions in free agency, made trades for high profile players, gave public votes or confidence to the direction from the GM and an obvious commitment from the owner who determined that they were going to continue riding things out as they were with no changes whatsoever in either direction-up or down-just to pointlessly sit through another year for no given reason other than to do it.

the team will either build up or tear down. The notion, to take this thread back to its original premise, that they will intentionally force a coach to “swallow his medicine” because they’re mad about the “cap space” he used is silly.

There is nothing to tear down.  We are one of the youngest teams in the NFL.  Rhule just immediately turned the car off road and has us stuck in the mud.   A new coach simply puts the car back on the journey Matt Rhule was supposed to lead.

you are projecting arguments I am not making.   I’m saying hot seat HCs and lame duck HCs don’t get the same freedoms and ability as coaches who are where Matt Rhule once was.  At least in well run franchises.  And we are now entering that window with Rhule.

so Rhule in theory this year should have his hands tied and restricted from bigger impacting plays that have high odds of impacting the next HC and putting him in a hole.   None of that is a new concept or some weird made up scenario for Rhule.  Doesn’t mean we won’t add players.  Sign guys and do some extensions.  It all has to be under the mindset Rhule could easily be unemployed in season next year though.

No one is saying Rhule will be sabatoged.  Or the team is being tanked.  But Matt Rhule won’t have the same luxuries and freedoms he had early.  Lame duck and hot seat coaches don’t get to do whatever they want (in well run franchises).

Matt Rhule is in fact a hot seat HC.  Even the Panther employed writers acknowledge that.  The fact we only can land a bum OC the league cast off to a nothing jobs confirms where Rhule is at in the eyes of everyone.  As does guys turning down interviews for a “promotion” here.   Well run orgs simply start putting constraints on coaches like Rhule now finds himself being.

    • I actually say wait five years since that's long enough to know if a player  became something worthy enough for a long term contract, whether with their original team or someone else. Therefore... 1 (8): Jaycee Horn - Has been questions about his durability but when he's healthy, he plays at a high level. Should we have drafted Pat Surtain or Micah Parsons, however? Arguably could’ve done better, but he's still here so that's a W pick. 2 (59): Terrance Marshall - Yet another classic Panther WR bust. I don’t recall seeing anything in his college tape that made me excited about drafting him in the first place.  3 (70): Brady Christensen - Proved to be a versatile player on the O-line.  As of now, we haven’t signed him back and I feel that we should. That's enough to say he was a solid draft pick. 3 (83): Tommy Tremble - Hasn't emerged as a consistent productive player, but he's had his moments here and there. We can certainly do better, but we haven’t found that guy yet so he still has some utility. W because he's not Ian Thomas. 4 (126): Chuba Hubbard - Surprise of the draft. It took time, but he's now our lead back.  5 (158): Daviyon Nixon - Had a half a sack with us and... that's it. I think I liked what I saw but it didn't pan out. 5 (166): Keith Taylor - Another guy I liked but only stuck around for two years. Played for a few other teams but nothing really to note. 6 (193): Deonte Brown - I really thought this guy was going to be a steal. He might’ve been the guy that had weight issues and never really got a handle on it. 6 (204): Shi Smith - He scored double the touchdowns that Marshall did in his short time here; it was two. Yeah, the Panthers wide receiver history is rather bleak. 6 (222): Thomas Fletcher - I had to look it up but he was a long snapper. JJ Jansen is immortal, so it was a wasted draft pick. 7 (232): Phil Hoskins - Actually recorded a sack here in his short career. Wish I could remember it.   Surprisingly not a bad draft when you have two good/great starters and a JAG that's still here, plus a good rotation guy most would like to keep.
    • Cooter was a good dude for sure.
    • We both been here about the same amount of time. Whatever happened to Livermush? I know Cooter passed aways years ago...and so many others?
