Panthers losing the fan base?

For everyone jumping ship…what exactly would you have done differently?

Which QB would you have signed instead of Darnold?

Which OL would you have signed?

What would you do realistically to fix this?

Keep in mind that the secondary was terrible before the Horn pick.  Had to be addressed

You get to hindsight this which they couldn’t do but go for it

Fine, restarting with a new “genius” coach is a slippery slope.  The next guy could be much worse.

With two 5 win seasons, it's pretty clear that Rhule has been a college coach trying to learn on the job.  The key thing is whether he's picked up enough so far to change his NFL coaching to become a lot more successful.

His off season hires of assistants with NFL experience gives a glimmer of hope that Rhule is starting to "get it".  How he handles the 2022 free agency and draft will be a big test as to whether he's actually improving or whether he's just clueless and will keep repeating the same mistakes of the last 2 years.

I would venture there are fewer diehard fans. Fair weather fans are the nature of the game.  It's the diehard fans that build the real culture of the team.

That culture seems to be in disarray and has been for quite some time. I suppose that is part of "the process " we keep hearing about. I do not know about you folks but I do not recognize this franchise anymore.  It's like watching a USFL team against the NFL.

Like all diehard Panthers fans I will admit being a Panthers fan even when they suck.  I will laugh along with those who ridicule me for doing so. It's what we do.  Someday we hope to be avenged for our suffering.

But there is a limit to such loyalty.  Tepper is pushing that limit for me. I no longer feel connected, part of the family of Panther fans who believe in the team.  Even if we knew it was an up hill battle to be serious contenders.

TL/dr: I'm getting fed up with this team.

This. Tepper replacing JR brought great hope. We never achieved consistent success under JR and JR was always going to put the NFL as a whole above the Panthers. Tepper was an insanely wealthy wildly successful hedgefund guy who was supposed to be aggressive and pursuing building a WINNER. Yay!!!

Things had grown stake under Rivera and it was time to move on. I didn't like the Rhule hire at the time because he didn't beat good teams at the college level and leaping from Temple/Baylor to the NFL felt like a huge transition to try to make. But, he had hype. He had turned around basement dwellers and made them competitive. He brought in one of the hottest OC candidates in football. Lots of people had good things to say so I was willing to give it a shot.

Then we signed Teddy Bridgewater and cut Cam. Way'ment... that failed. Okay, surely they learned. Oh fug, we just traded real assets for Sam Darnold. Some of y'all may recall that was the exact moment I said Rhule ultimately was not gonna work out. He just doesn't get it.

Look at us now. At rock bottom and still digging while Tepper just sits there mouth breathing.

He absolutely did not have it all figured out walking into this…but can he?  Unknown right now.

Disagree.  The defense was much better.  Get OL tooled up and run it back.  QB isn’t getting fixed outside of a miracle so wait for better options in the draft next year.  Darnold was 23 and picked high.  It was a gamble.  We tried other options that didn’t work out.  You keep working which Rhule and Fitty will definitely do.

Much better?

We are very far from rock bottom.  Damn this shet kills me.  Which QB would have fixed us last year that was available?  There isn’t one.  And there weren’t OL available either.  None!  The moves were not there man.  Jeez

No hindsight needed. Some of us said stuff during the draft.

1. Don’t extend Robby. There was zero need and it basically makes Marshall’s pick really dumb with Humphrey sitting there.

2. Horn pick was fine, although my whole plan detailed many times in here was to get a rookie QB (and tank a bit more in 2020, no Teddy, cut Short, trade Turner for a pick). I’d rather have Fields than Sam.

3. No effing way do I trade that much for Sam. I wanted a rookie QB anyway but don’t let the Jets bend you over. Maybe Rhule and co actually thought it would be late round picks, 😂, but still call the Jets bluff and see what happens in the draft. Wouldn’t shock me if we thought all the QBs would be gone and did the Sam deal and then said let’s not look double down at QB because it will make the Sam trade look stupid.

4. Why pick up the 5th year option for Sam? Make him want yo earn it not have a huge reward if he fails. Also, worst case you pay a few million more to franchise him because he did so well. Worst case if you pick up fifth year early is you wasted 3 picks and flushed $18M down the drain.

5. Draft a poo ton of talented OL. Slater, Humphrey and Smith were all in the PFF rookie OL team and all three were taken as the next or second OL after we took Horn, Marshall and a long snapper. Heck, Smith was a way better prospect and not a project like Brown. We basically got next to nothing in 2021 instead of having maybe the best young OL in the NFL. I like Horn but Slater, any LG, Humphrey, Smith and Moton is a fuging amazing young and cheap OL.

Literally none of that made sense at the time.  Robby was massive the year before.  Sam was literally the only decent option at his age.  All these moves were good at the time and made sense.  You are leaving out the many defensive adds we made that absolutely worked out

😂

There are no decent options at Sam's age unless you're talking about the draft. When 23 year old QBs are available via trade or free agency it's because they are fuging trash. Sam is trash. Most of us called that out at the time. It wasn't hard to see.

the interesting part is that even though the panthers aren’t winning, the majority said they would still attend and follow the team.

This is why Tepper and Richardson before him have zero incentive to field a winning team. The PSLs and season tickets will continue to sell. Fans, even if they are opposing team fans, will show up to buy the overpriced beer and other concessions.

So you were keeping Teddy?  I remember you saying worse things about two gloves.  There weren’t better options…period

Fitty can’t conjure QBs and OL out of thin air unfortunately

Anything is better than trading valuable draft assets for a proven terrible QB and then picking up his fifth year option. I sad at the time I would've either signed Trubisky to a low level FA deal or traded a late round pick for Minshew. And them I would've drafted Justin Fields.

You keep saying there were no other options than the terrible options we chose but that is simply not true. You just choose to ignore any other possible options.
