I don’t think you are remembering Clausen correctly. Or you simply remember Panther Clausen and not predraft/draft Clausen.

Pre draft Clausen got hyped up like this class did (Most pro ready QB) .. But the league accept (Hurney) made their opinion on him..  As he dropped to the 48th pick.. Just like these QBS are..

So what is different here?

People thought Willis would go top 10 because QB’s get overdrafted due to need.

The only hype was some deep balls he threw. It has been clear from the jump that this class is the least hyped and didn’t have a franchise clear cut guy.

Put the blunt down.

That he has a full season in him.

FYI: The guys who do this professionally don't seem to think so.

First off he did already in NE. Unless Covid counts.

Second you put words in my mouth, I never said that.

I simply said I would prefer he get a full off-season with skill players, be able to actually learn the playbook, and to have a regular training camp for the first time since he’s been healthy.

But this isn’t going anywhere. You clearly see things differently.

Totally agree. Cam with a line and weapons hasn't happened since 15'. He has had the worst luck as far as having actual receivers. Smitty and DJ were his best and he didn't get to spend much time with either.

Cam Newton is still big. Still strong. Still fast. Still a one two punch of a QB. This man is in better shape than your personal trainer. The broke down talk is outdated nonsense. He came back like a BULL last season.

    • I wonder if they'd consider trading Rasheed Walker to a team that needs tackle help but missed out in the draft?
    • LOL. This is such a Panthers fan take.  Anyone who falls to us must suck because some other team didn't take them before.  We got lucky with Lemon, Thieneman, and Freeling all falling to us (honestly any of the three is a A+) but the WR and S positions are much deeper than the LT position in this draft.  We got the LT w/ the most upside at 19.  Mauigoa played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the nfl.  Spano played RT in college and some think he is a guard in the NFL due to short arms.  Blake Miller played RT in college and is not as good as Freeling.  Proctor is a true LT but his ability to handle quick edge's worries me (see Icky).  Freeling is a true LT and a gifted pass protector.  Many think he has a very high ceiling and will benefit from not having to start right away.  This is how you build a franchise.
    • After watching Cam get killed for years behind a bad Oline and having to watch the 2021 and 2023 Olines I will never complain about this team putting resources into that spot.  We got a true LT who could really push Rasheed Walker for the day 1 job. Go back and watch Iceky's draft profile from 2022 and all the talk was Ickey would be an all-pro guard in a zone blocking scheme, but he could play LT in a gap power run scheme. That's why Ickey looked really good when Wilks took over and we just started running gap run plays and just mauled people up front but under Canales we've been more of a zone running team. Ickey can survive at LT with his pass blocking but his true strength will always be his ability to just move guys in the run game and that's a skill set that's better used at guard.  Take another OT later on day 3 to learn from Moton to take over RT in a couple of years and let Walker and Freeling battle it out for the day 1 LT job then next offseason trade one of Hunt of Lewis and let Ickey move inside to guard.
