Look to New Orleans for our new head coach

i dont see why this is such a horrible idea. i mean you can't just pick coaches willy-nilly from a winning team and expect success - there's a lot of other factors that go into determining who'd be a good leader - but there's no denying a LOT of the Saints coaches/coordinators will be looked at for higher-level jobs around the league in 2010.

i think you got my point. All i want is for us to look. and look everywhere. I don't want another John Fox.

The only real candidate from the saints is Payton and he is obviously going nowhere. This is Carmichael's first year as OC and everyone knows Payton is the guy calling the game. Gregg Williams is one of if not the premier DC's in the league but it will take another year of results before he gets another chance at a head coach position.

Anyone that takes Williams as a head coach candidate had better start lining up Charlie Weiss to pair him with!!!

oh noes!!!!! another thread idea!!!!!1!11!

Gregg Williams previous stint as a HC was a disaster. That was a big reason the Redskins didn't promote him to replace Gibbs (although anyone can certainly question Dan Snyder's reasoning on anything these days!). Very few people succeed in subsequent HC positions after having one that ended badly. Belichek is one, obviously. But there aren't too many of them past or present. The fact is that most are best in their niche, being at best coordinators only. The 3 most attractive 'retreads' out there who are unemployed as coaches are Cowher, Dungy, and Shanahan. I know others names have popped up, like Gruden and Holmgren, but I don't see them as real candidates for a coaching job, at least not for us. I don't think Dungy wants to coach again either, but to me is he still among the best of the lot. Shanahan had some success at Denver, but he had a HOF QB take him to his SBs. Cowher is no miracle worker, but I'll wager he'll instill some real attitude that this team has been sorely lacking. All of them will not come cheap.
