How could we not give Fitt another chance?!?

So his first round picks look solid (like Hurney), but outside of that he hasn't killed it with the draft.  How else would he "improve the roster?"  That sounds like he can sign FAs like Erving and Elf that were signed early to stupid contracts.  Is trading for Sam considered improving the roster?

Do you really think he have a good roster now?

Improve the roster?

I offer this simple question to anyone...

Have the Panthers looked better this year, in Rhules 3rd yeard, or in his earlier years?

Well, obviously anyone with eyeballs can see the Panthers have gotten progressively worse during his tenure.

But why? Is Rhule suddenly magically a different coach? Did he suddenly become trash? Umm, no, he's the same guy he always was.

So why are we even worse off now? It's obvious. The roster is worse. But roster can't be worse because of Fitt right (ALL FHULES FAULT FITT WAS JUST BUSY OUT GETTING COFFEE YOU GUYS)

I mean really whats the difference:
"Multiple general managers suggested to me that, should Wilks not win the job, Carolina General Manager Scott Fitterer would strongly endorse Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. Fitterer and Quinn worked together at the height of the Seahawks’ reign and share a strong relationship, and Quinn, the former head coach in Atlanta, has helped create a dominant unit in Dallas. However, those same GMs believe Quinn will have better options than Carolina."

Better options???  Fitt has built an improving roster here.  Tepper just said it?  How is Carolina not a top option?

I think we have areas of it that are good while others need improvement, which is actually pretty standard across the league.

Free agency improved from last year to this year in part because of the addition of Dan Morgan. Fitterer is a draft guy, Morgan a pro personnel guy.

I do feel like the drafts have been decent at the very least, though given we're only two years in it's kind of premature to judge.

But as with other things, I'd like to see how the roster performs when Matt Rhule and his people aren't coaching it.

Or are you going to tell me that who's doing the coaching also makes no difference?

Just like with players, when there is massive failure a change of scenery can be good for both sides.

Fritterer in prove it mode leaves me with giant doubts given what he has done and been a part of here. He does have the rest of the season to prove why he should be brought back.

The Quinn stuff is a dealkiller and I will absolutely hope against that ever happening.

I am not 100% against Quinn if it got to that but to have him as your #1 guy is fuging fireable on general principle

I don't know that it will, but it's definitely possible given Quinn has ties to both of our top two decision makers and fits the profile of what people believe Tepper wants (though that's speculation too).

Fitt literally walked into a situation with a below average roster, and somehow made it worse.

Every single year.

Two years under Fitt, we've given out some of the worst contracts, and made some of the worst trades.

The two years under Fitt, have been among the worst offseasons out of the entire NFL.

UMM HELLOOO??? DO YOU HAVE EYEBALLS?

It was just stated we have had the same coach over 3 years and look worse that ever.  Rhule would be the constant and Fitt would be building the roster to make it better right?  It's a good point by @R0CKnR0LLA.

So Fitt was doing the FAs when we signed Elf and Erving, then Morgan comes in and we sign Bozeman, and Corbett?  If that is true then Morgan seems better off of that.  So who is responsible for us having no draft capital?

I will agree that drafts are still hard to tell.  It took Brown 3 years to develop, but that just means Fitt still haven't proven much at all....

    • Like many of the old heads, I’ve been here for a long time.  I got a lot of respect for everyone on this board for your dedication to this team.  We’ve all been through it during the tougher years. At this point in life, I’m not one to judge anyone’s level of dedication, or their reasons why anymore.  Time, and a lot of bad football, will do that.  For me, it’s simple.  We share a common bond.  For that, I love and appreciate all of you crazy SOB’s. For me, last season was at a minimum, entertaining.  BY lead a young team to multiple come from behind 4th qtr wins.  That showed me heart, and that he has the clutch gene.  That’s the wildcard intangible.  For me, that was fun to watch even  if it was mindbogglingly frustrating at times.  Over the past two seasons, we have progressively built a better team around him.  On paper, the defense should be better this season.  That’ll help.  Let’s see what he can do as the other guys continue to develop too.  Besides, his contract is cheap for a few more years, and we just made some smart cap decisions during the draft. Let’s see how it shakes out.
    • Hiring Shula & his Cam save us playbook.
    • I would very much liked to have seen Jake Delhomme's career if Tommy Jone no hurt Jake.  I just know that roster and the leadership were destined to hit paydirt but Jake was never the same after the elbow injury, and unfortunately he was the sole reason they didn't make it back to the big one.  I think that 08 team was the best in the league, and Jake masked his inability well all season til the Arizona game put it all on display.  I'll go back to the season prior even and say the 07 team was primed to be a competitor.  Jake was off to a fantastic start that year (for a Panthers QB).  They may have been a championship caliber club for a few seasons after 08 too.
