Does that mean you're 100% sold on Stroud or Young? Might as well evaluate Darnold and Eason behind an average O-line.

I like Stroud but admittedly not a huge college guy. Just watch when I can and read. I am also optimistic we won’t be the modern Browns and won’t pick so high every year so it’s the best time to get the franchise guy in a deep draft. Unlike past years I do believe this coming draft will produce a franchise QB, whomever that may be.

I also know worthwhile qbs AND coaches have flat out declined to play or interview with this franchise. Drafting a qb is the only way up. Draft is the draft, you can never be 100%. But you take your shots on the best of what you know, and the best of what we know is Stroud appears to be a solid choice compared to what I’ve seen in past drafts, and just in general.

Darnold would be an average backup behind a good line. However, unlike fanboys here, I think Corral’s ceiling is a serviceable backup so ultimately that spot is already taken.

If Sam stays healthy after his return, then there is zero reason to rush Baker back for at least the next 4 games or so. 😉  Sam can tank commander for us.  If we continue to trot PJ out there, it's too obvious what's going on.

Tank command, you just made my day 😂

Darnold has identical stats as Baker with he worst oline in the NFL and no CMC. Plus his rushing numbers look better.

Believe it or not from what we’ve seen of Baker so far, Darnold is actually better and awful as he is.

He isn't and we all know he isn't. People just want to convince themselves it isn't true.

We saw Darnold in an offense that was designed to give him easy options to throw to. He was indecisive and fuging terrible.

Now you want to see him in an offense that definitely doesn't provide easy options. If you think he was bad last year, he is gonna give you a hold my beer moment.

Remember that he already was far worse than Baker in this same offense in the preseason and offseason.

Assuming Eason is being sacrificed to the bucs defense, who is the backup this week.  We about have to sign someone don't we?

I didn't watch the video so I'm sorry if the answer is in there.

Wilks said they were going to be aggressive on both sides of the ball.........

So I guess the pregame meal for both offense and defense will have bottles of Red Rectum hot sauce replacing ketchup on their steak.

I am not speaking to any hypotheticals or off-season or preseason. I don’t want to convince myself who is king of the trash pile, no need to because they both suck. But Baker is god awful behind a FAR superior oline and with CMC as a weapon.

From what I’ve seen Baker is absolutely hot garbage and doesn’t even have hold my beer moments with a far superior team. Baker on last years’ team would be just as if not worse than Darnold, unless you think his QBR would increase without cmc and a worse oline.

You started about not speaking about hypotheticals but then ended your argument with a hypothetical..

Baker wasn't on last year's team. Darnold was on last year and this year's team. This year he looked even worse than Baker in camp and preseason. Same offense as we are running now.

That's bad. There is no getting around how bad that is.

It's bad enough that PJ is starting and Darnold isn't. So Wilks also thinks Darnold is garbage.

I don’t think it’s fair to say Darnold is behind Walker and imply that it is because Wilkes sees how much better than one is over the other.  The guy just came off IR they will ease him in. If he earns that ranking, no problem with it.
I was sort of stunned that Mayfield was so bad. There were so many downs that were wasted because of stupid poo.
But I am a fair minded person I like to think, and Darnold needs to get his chance on the field.  We will see what he does with it.

The Panther way would be that he comes out and does great just to foul things up.

    • Absolutely LOVED Smitty as a player. Who didn't? But Smitty the person, yeah... not so much. Unfortunately all those things that made us love him as a player had no off switch. He was basically the exact same person off the field that was on the field and that's obviously just not gonna work well in polite society.
    • And our record says we were a losing team that lucked into getting into the playoffs. Playoffs are not our standard because we didn't earn our way in, the Falcons had to do it for us. We also got in because the NFCS sent another losing record team to the playoffs and the Panthers are the only team in the NFL to go twice with a losing record. That's not something to be proud of. The reason I brought up the 13 and 16 point scores was those are not typically wins most weeks in the NFL. In fact, there were 31 wins this season where the winning team scored under 20. 7 of those happened in week 18. That means this past season, only 11% of the time, the winning team scored under 20. Prior to week 18, that was 9%. Week 18 was a statistical anomaly.  How often does a team go into the red zone 6 times and come away with 13 points? Not often. GB did and we won that game. And we played a Jets team (0-7 at the time) that was offensively inept. Teams also don't consistently win one score games as often as we did either. Those things tend to balance themselves out the following year. I'm not erasing wins. I'm looking at how this team actually performed during the season. We defied the odds winning 2 games scoring under 20. The record, and the stats across the NFL, show we are in reality closer in performance to a 6 win team than we are to 8.    If Bryce was a FA for another team would we be looking at him? Probably not. He's in the retread and dice roll category. It just so happens we just signed him to the option. There's not a lot of good options out there right now. That's why I'm not in the sign a vet as QB2 club. Bring in a retread or dice roll. Trotting a vet out a couple of games isn't going to get us anywhere long term.
    • Not sure he is in the top ten but: His 9.99 RAS score, second among 1,512 tackles since 1987, isn't a gimmick. You see every bit of that explosiveness translate to the field when he kicks and slides in pass sets. NFLDraftBuzz
