Whether or not Collins would be considered a bust overall could probably make a decent debate.

He certainly was for us though.

I certainly can't argue against that. He was a train wreck here and it was with good riddance when he was gone. Still, he did have a career out there.

That's not what that quote meant I don't think .... The quote is in reference to Herbert's performance in that game. The article itself clarified this. That's why it starts with "even as"... And this bit RIGHT before it: "But behind the scenes, a few of the scouts who had pushed for Herbert squirmed as they watched the 22-year-old throw for 330 yards, showing the poise and command of an offense they believed could have stabilized the position for a decade or more."

EDIT: woops see that someone else caught this 🙂 Behind a day hahah.

I always felt they jumped the gun with him a little bit.

Frank Reich was having a bad game, yeah. But first they benched Reich, then they benched Jack Trudeau in the same game.

I'll always wonder what would have happened if they'd have just decided to take their lumps and hold off on starting Collins till he'd had a little more time.

You know he had to be on the bench just saying, "Put me in coach, put me in..."

Me, I think you should sit every newly drafted QB for a year behind a vet QB. Even if that vet is just a journeyman. But I don't have millions of fans breathing down my neck to make something happen right now, either.

Can't argue with that. Rhule was a massive mistake for this organization.

Hopefully Tepper will get some outside help with the scouting department. Because I would bet that's a total mess with how much control Rhule had. Getting a new head coach with strong ties to a good organization would go really far as well. Just like it worked out in Buffalo. They went from joke to contender because of that.

Boy how I don't want to read that. Not only did we pick 3 dud QBs, run off our franchise QB, but also not take Fields who is looking more and more like a franchise QB. Complete failure in the QB department.

Fields is great, as long as the Bears don't let him throw the ball much.  42 runs, 21 passes last week. Four passes in the second half.

He's progressing. The bears actually figured out it was a bad idea to keep a young QB behind a bad line. That was the difference in the NE game. They moved him around to create opportunity. Fields is still going to make some bone head plays but if the bears invest in a better line his numbers will jump.

Fitterer's logic on the option, per a front office source, was this: The two-year payout would be reasonable, considering Darnold's $4.7 million due in 2021, and he'd be much more expensive if he lit up the field that season. Tepper, per a team source, questioned placing that value on Darnold so early in his relationship with the team but "reluctantly" approved, a source with direct knowledge of the negotiations said.

He had one decent game.  And other teams will watch the film, and eventually be prepared for the changes the Bears made.  And they will need to adapt again.  And eventually, he will have to show he can be a successful pocket passer.

PJ Walker had a far better game against Tampa.  In fact, PJ's game against Tampa was a better game than Fields has had in any of his 19 starts.  Not that I think PJ is going to be a good NFL qb, but at this point, he is probably better than Fields.

    • Not sure how much he was a long term piece of this team.   Sucks to not have him as part of the rotation.   Looks like it's Lee Hunter time.
    • This post was an error. Oops and sorry for the errors in the previous one. Too slow to edit.   We’ll see what they do.
    • I am not sure he will put the over the games but we’ll probably have them.   Two things I am thinking.  We have 4 preseason games.  All the coaches have enough service time to know the standards that are in place for decades. If I recall it was play your starters just a series to start woth and build it up until week theee where play a lot and you have week four to set hour roster. Evaluate before cuts.   Bevell will certainly have the whole thing down pat.   I’d they don’t do the fries and frie air will worry too. Because it is set up to do that.     I have said since they went t three preseason people have to figure a new way are still feeling it out and trying things.  We don’t have to this year.
