7 years or so ago, UNC was playing Clemson in the ACC Championship game and recovered an onside kick to give them an opportunity to win the game, a phantom offside penalty was called and Clemson went on to win.

Clemson was a consistent 10 win team at that point with Watson at QB.  

what was best for college football? 

y’all weren’t old enough to get that upset attempt.  Thumbs are always on the scales.  Clemson isn’t special.  There just the ACC version of special treatment.
