Tell that to 99% of the Huddle.  We are in the VAST minority on that sentiment my friend.  I started beating the replace Greg Olsen drum when he re-broke his foot.  Like Jordan Gross, it will probably take this thick-skulled organization another few years to realize the void that's staring them straight in the face.

Tight ends in the nfl do not hold round 1 value.  They just dont.   I suspect 1 of 2 things happen in the draft for us in the first.  We either trade up and get Stroud or Young (who i suspect may drop a bit if his combine measurements surprise folks) or we draft AR at 9.    I would love to draft that texas rb in the 2nd if he drops but I doubt he gets by the bills.

Well Fitt(IMO) started his GM job on Oct. 11th, 2022. In that time span he has been okay, with the one blunder likely being passing on the insane trade amount for Burns.

He has his first career offseason as a GM coming up, so it will be a lot easier to judge him when that happens.

He has multiple blunders, lets be honest here.   But if you are in the camp that Rhule held all the power then he better have reciepts that he was against those moves.  Anyone that has worked in the corporate world and on big projects/acquisitions know you have to document your work and if something is going the way you dont like you have to make notes on it.  Its CYA at its basic form.  So I suspect tepper knows what moves are what.  And its the reason that even to this day that the panther beat guys still dont know if fitts job is safe

Yes, they do...just not high fist round.  There generally is a TE drafted in the first round just about every year, if not top of the second.  If we can find a trade back partner and still get Mayer, that's a win-win in my book.

Who was the last te that was worthy of a first round pick?  The greatest te prospect of our generation was Pitts and look at him now.   And every year people just say "trade back, trade back" but there has to be someone willing to move up in more cases then not for a qb and if thats the case why would we move seeing how we desperately need a qb?   We are simply not in a position as a franchise to trade back.   Its imperative we get a qb

I definitely agree with your take on not trading Burns.  One of the worst decisions we've made as a franchise.  Not the worst but it's up there.  Hes a one trick rusher.  Hes elite if he gets around the edge with his speed rush but once lineman gets their hands on him he completely stops rushing and stands up.   That's not even factoring his run defense or his contract situation.  Bad bad decision.  The fields part I dont really agree with though.  Hes flashy in the ground game but that's about it.   I saw a play yesterday where the lions literally rushed 0 and he threw an interception.  Elite runner, below average passer.   Elite runners dont get it done in the playoffs.  Back to Burns though I hope maybe they put him out there and see if they could still get 2 firsts for him this offseason.   Two firsts and a second I definitely dont see again though.

That's fine about Fields, but he has solidified his employment for a reason. He plays with a bad line in regards to pass pro.

And it's not like he really has any receivers either. Many couldn't name Mooney or Claypool in a lineup.

Better protection and better receivers will lead to better passing stats. His passer rating this season is 85 (and some change). Cam Newton's career passer rating is 85. Fields will very likely improve.

He was running for his life yesterday.  His line is 2021 panthers bad.  They are in a perfect spot to trade out of 2 and still get the best tackle in the draft

I’d like a new GM for the simple reason I think front offices should be married.   Forced to have the same goals and timelines.  When they aren’t, the org always has a scapegoat for when things are bad.  Coach or GM.   The alternation cycle just does what it does and we have seen that over and over.

Along with Tepper, Wilks may have had substantial input into the decision not to do the Burns trade.  If anything, I think the incentive would have been for a GM to take that trade, since it was so generous.  JMO

Great post.  Also you forgot that Rhule basically picked fitt so might as well scrub and and all things he did from this franchise

Yep. Knowing what we know of Fields today yesterday, I really can't see a credible reason not to draft him. Even then, his college stats were largely based upon passing. He can sling the rock, and he was historically accurate. For me, that screams take the chance all day long.

    • Lions were never going Freeling over Miller for the same reason we wouldn't have taken Miller had Freeling not been on the board. Miller is a career RT Lions have a hole at RT, we have a hole at LT. If we took Miller, it would have been for him to backup Moton until he retires and/or we release him, so the best case scenario is it would have been a wasted 1st round pick for at least 1, if not 2 years.  At least Freeling has a shot at playing this year without injury ahead of him, he absolutely can win the LT job if he earns it, but Miller would have never supplanted Moton this year unless he got hurt.
    • What up y’all. I like threads like this where we can stroll down memory lane. I remember the insane amount of site traffic pre-crash when we signed Keyshawn Johnson, 06 I believe. Raging about the Cowboys Christmas Eve loss in 05 (Peppers touched that FG attempt as sure as Cotchery caught it). When I found the huddle I basically had a first born baby, now I’ve got one in college and one in high school. Life comes at you fast, but the Panthers and the Huddle has been a steady constant in my life for many years.  Those who have been here, y’all are cool with me any time any where.    Cheers, genitals!
    • This is a weird post since it wasn’t like we got A’s across the board. We needed a QB and got a consensus top 2 player at that position. (I was pretty vocal that Stroud should’ve been the guy but…)  I think this draft we generally got better value. I’m not particularly optimistic on BY but another year in this offense playing with TMac he really needs to be a consistently average QB at a minimum
