I don’t think they are considering Payton anymore. The comp to the saints is too big a pill for most teams to swallow let alone a division rival. I think the interview was more feeling out and conversation than an actual interview

I wasn’t saying that, I had read from insiders that all the teams were waiting for the Payton domino to fall.

He was a finalist last year in miami, I suspect he is lights out in interviews and its only a matter of time before someone gives him a shot

Yea his interview was so good, it almost made Tepper and this search committee back off its experienced HC only mantra they've had since nearly the beginning.

I wonder how much Ben McAdoo played into the interview because Moore and him worked together in Dallas in 2021

Not sure,  would make sense if the team wanting experienced hc at a coordinator spot for anyone Young and first time hc is true...which seems to be the case.

Do you think he’s doing this to feel the waters for next time?

I've heard he really wanted the Broncos or Panthers jobs.

Broncos owners like Paton and didn't want to give him up, definitely the case in Houston. Dunno about Arizona cause that's weird and reeks of desperation on Payton's side.

Panthers probably balked at the combination of cost per year plus control after the Rhule debacle. Also the off field concerns with Bounty gate but more importantly the pills.

Think he's just being turned down for one reason or another every where he's interviewed

Summing up the process...

- Nine candidates interviewed

- Wilks given a shot

- No to Sean Payton and several youngsters

- We're the first team to make a hire

- And we have our first offensive coach in team history

Whew 😐

Next up: Hiring assistants

My guess-

possible OCs:

-Kevin Patullo

-Mike McCoy

-Brian Johnson

Possible DCs

-Gus Bradley

-Dave Borgonzi

-John Fox (Yeah the same one)

Possible STCs

-Chris Tabor

-Bubba Vetrone

    • You joke, but hasn't basically the whole team been in Charlotte this past week together? I'm not one to see the random dumb stuff players put out on social media in the offseason and think it means that's ALL they've been doing and not working on their game.  But it's a little strange that all this is coming out at the same time we're seeing tons of stuff with the team in Charlotte together, even if it's just working out and not even official team OTA's or anything. So he gets a pass from me saying anything now, but if he doesn't show clear improvement this season, it then opens him up to some retroactive criticism for some things.
    • Ha-ha, I bet that went through everyone's mind.  Admittedly I don't read all the comments in a thread before I make a post. Great minds think alike!
    • Cam was hitting his stride as a QB in 2017/2018.     This is why I think stats like completion percentage are overrated. As long as a QB is clutch and makes the throws to win the game the rest doesn’t really matter. What good is a check down stat padder if they’re a choker.  Until Norv Turner (and briefly Chud) got here we put Cam in high pressure throwing situations all the time. We also ran the ball on first down more than most teams in the NFL in the Ron era. Coupled with shitty WRs, all that is expressed in his stats. I also assume Cam took the ball in his hands on many occasions rather than trust Funchess to catch the ball.    It was also never Cams job to play the game like someone else. His presence on the field dictated the game in a way that is rarely seen.  He showed he could play the dink and dunk game just before TJ Watt. That didn’t suddenly make him better than his earlier seasons. He just got put in a legit under center  passing game again for first time since his rookie year with Chud.    Ron took the quickest path to success and abused the RPO because his ass was about to get fired.    Cam never got the credit for being the cerebral player that he was. I just think when you are legitimately a human Superman, sometimes the best play is having the ball in your hands. He was a better passer than Delhomme was.
