Darnold was very good when he came back from IR.

I doubt they bring him back because the new HC will want his own guy, but that stretch of 6 games was the best QB play we've seen in a Panthers jersey for a number of years.

Sorry, but when you have a statline like this
5-15
43 Pass Yards
0 TD
2 INT
2.8 Pass Rating

Playing in dome, healthy, and you played the full game, it discredits everything you've done. Burrow, Herbert, Mahomes, Allen, hell even Cousins, Carr, Tua, hell even Jones, Murray, hell even Davis fuging Mills doesn't even do that....literally only Darnold and Zach Wilson....31st ranked QB is not "very good" for the NFL. I will never understand the yearning for mediocrity on this board

I read that they were pissed at Ballard. They really don’t comment on Reich’s coaching style but how he handled the wentz situation.

Yeah, hard to be pissed at a coach with a winning record after 5 different Day 1 QBs.

He had the worst single game passer rating in the history of our franchise to close the season against a mediocre Saints team starting Andy Dalton.

Of nobody gets open who do you throw to?

1 game discredits 5 others?

Happy Excuse Me GIF

Must be some new Math....

...is this the "Panther way" around here?

"What have you done for me lately?"  I believe that is still a thing.    (and it is indeed "interesting")

But what do I know? I'm just a noob here who hasn't mastered the art of shoving his head so far into the ground I could see China.  🙄

Don't worry, I'll do better.

"What have you done for me lately" "Have the worst game in the NFL since Nathan Peterman in the 'latest' game the Panthers have played"

I tried with Darnold, I really did, but that final game was evidence enough he isn't a starting QB and we need a big upgrade. You can't have games like that, the NFL has too few games. This isn't the NBA. I mean 5-15 for 43 yards? What the hell is that? And its his 5th year, no more excuses

hey. I'm not denying he was sh*t in that game.

But if we were to judge QBs on just ONE sh*tty game, there would be no QBs left in the league.

And don't be like mrINcompletely and attempt to whatabout'ism his past seasons where he's had sh*t for coaching and sh*t for O-Lines (something that's Ancient news and not relevant to the here and now).     Last season was the first time, he's had both that weren't sh*t.    And while he didn't exactly light it up like a Franchise QB would (thus proving that at best, his future is to be a backup in the league), he was decent enough to give the team a chance which is all one can ask for.     That is what I will acknowledge about him.

Now, do I think he should be brought back?    No.

I think this team could use a Brissett instead (and hope that Fitts goes after him instead of paying up the nose for a Derek Carr).

But like i stated before to frank :  You can NOT want Sam back but still acknowledge he was Decent for us for 5 of those 6 games.

@amcoolio

btw, I saw your ninja edit just now.   When I say "what have you done for me lately?", I meant it in terms of the season overall he had.  This strange obsession with focusing on ONE sh*tty game out of the games he played this past season is absurd.   It's like people wanted him to fail so their narrative lives on or something.    🤔

Pff. Whatever.   He's gone so let's see if Brissett or whomever other Vet the Panthers sign becomes the new whipping boy around here.

Sam is better and has higher ceiling than Jacoby.

Its not an obsession, I'm just done with those types of games, from ANY Panthers QB. Its like we are in a different football league than the NFL, I don't understand how our QB play can be so incredibly bad. I don't care if you throw interceptions or make bad decisions, just throw the damn ball and complete a damn pass. Lets agree to move on.

NAILED IT.

(although I would rather the pass be completed to one of OUR guys.  lol )

    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
