Combine Drills: Quarterback Day

Yeah I've already been thinking about the Willis situation last year. All this about 4 QB's going in the top ten is just draft hype I would be shocked if anything like that went down. But if we do want to move up don't waste too much opportunity.

At this point last year …. Malik Willis was projected to be a top 3 overall pick after the combine and his pro day.

Malik Willis was propped up by an extremely weak QB class last year.  The first QB taken was what, Pickett in the 20s?

There is no chance in hell Richardson falls out of the 1st round.

He was propped up by the hype machine. Again, this is not a played to player comparison to AR. This is tempering expectations on where the pro teams actually see these guys being drafted.

they know way better than anyone else. Teams knew last year Malik wasn’t gonna go first round… but media, Vegas, sources and analysts all were saying Malik could be taken by the lions as their top pick.

Do you personally think AR will go top 10?  First round?  As we sit today what do you think?

I personally think AR will be the third/fourth QB taken. Where he will be taken all depends on who trades up.

i also didn’t think Mitch Trubisky would be a top pick or Baker would go number 1 overall. So what do I know?

Unless I am missing something there is literally no coverage of the panthers and the combine on the Charlotte Observer site.  WTF has happened to that paper?  Are they really too cheap to send someone up there?

Newspapers are a dead business and they've been in managed decline mode for my entire adult life. I had to unfollow my local small town newspaper on social media because it was just completely trash. Celebrity gossip, national level culture war BS, etc. Like you're a small town (sub-20k) western NC newspaper. I'm following you for local stories. When I couldn't even find the sports schedule for the local HS playoff games anywhere on their site I was like... oh just fug off and fold already. LOL!

But your gut was right about mitch and baker so I would say instincts matter.   I think a team in the top 10 falls in love with the hype and AR goes top 3.    I think Stroud goes before him and thats probably it

I think there is more hype for the others than AR within league circles right now. The way scouts talk about Bryce and Stroud are completely different than the way they talk about AR and WL.

with Bryce and CJ it’s “can” and “will” and AR/WL are “could” and “should”

The wildest thing about media, analysts, and mocks is that they have to tell a story a hundred different ways with the same data…. Talk about monetized monotony.

this is the period of time where we get ear banged with the same poo over and over but in a handful different of ways. Get ready for AR to be number 1 one day, CJ number 1 the next, and back to Bryce a mere couple days later.

also, get ready for a bunch of “weird” inside reports like wayne Gretzky’s kid getting punched in the face.

good luck everyone. Stay sane. Keep balanced.

If nothing else the next round of mocks will be entertaining

    • Given the draft makeup after the top-10 or so, I feel many teams are going to be hoping for trade downs. Which makes downward movement a bit more tricky.  So they may just go for the best impact they see fit and surprise.  I mean, can use someone at all levels of our defense (ILB, DE, S and Slot). Offense need more OL bodies and could use another WR. No way we can be zeroed in on a particular position.  Makes me damn curious to our board and how they’re weighing immediate vs long term impact.  I still see multiple guys rather than positions in play. S: Thieneman, McNeil-Warren ILB: Rodriguez, Allen DL: Faulk, McDonald WR/TE: Saddiq, Cooper, Boston, Conception OL: Freeling, Proctor, Lomu, Iheanachor Heck, even the EDGE group in our range is interesting like Parker. - Then there’s these guys that are in that 19/51 fringe range that seem to be really good fits-Haulcy, J Rod, Golday, etc.
    • I guess I could see it if we got breaks, but we got the breaks this year and it was still 8 wins.   Also I dont see TB crumbling, they are a competent franchise that hit the injury bug last year I dont know what to think about NO so theres that. Atlanta majorly upgraded at coach so there is always something to having a competent grown up leading a team.
    • Glad he's coming back but honestly surprised. I guess the new staff convinced him there was going to be PT for him. It was baffling how Hubert never played him. Its not like we were a top 10 type team looking like a contender and had it all figured out. We should've been giving him opportunities. There was no reason not to. Utter lack of bench development and hard headedly running his starters into the ground because he was afraid to go to his bench was an knowing issue with Hubert that he just wasn't growing out of with more HC experience. If you don't play them how are they supposed to develop? And his starters could do no wrong. Didn't matter what they did, they wouldn't get yanked and their playing time wouldn't decrease. But if a bench guy came in and made one mistake he was probably getting buried for three or four games. That's a recipe for your starters playing sloppy and your bench playing tight and scared. Saw it year after year.
