You keep saying TDL… but Svech dude. Svech.

Svech makes the team much better but the reality is the same symptoms that have plagued this team post TDL for the past few seasons are rearing their ugly head again - to the point that FO philosophy AND coaching are within reason of questioning.

Svech would have been enough. But you have to expect possible injuries to key players, so getting a scorer at the TDL was a necessity if you want to win the Cup.

Svech was enough to keep us in a series, not to win a cup. Which is clear indication that ownership is more content with the financial gain from just making the playoffs than sacrificing the future for a legitimate shot at a Cup.

Let’s agree to disagree. Svech was enough imho, our average Goals per game was significantly higher with Svech and his big body defensive play, especially his hits, was excellent.

I agree. But we are taking about the playoffs not the regular season.

If memory serves me right on March 11 when Svech had his injury vs Vegas, we were well ahead of the Devils and solidly in second place in they league behind the Bruins. Could we match up with the Bruins? We did in the regular season, so again imho we were strong cup contenders then with Svech on board.

Fact remains we should have picked up a scorer at TDL for insurance against an injury of our top scorers as I stated earlier.

Again I agree. But look at the performance of the franchise after the TDL over the last 3 seasons.

My memory wasn’t that good, I went back and checked we were 4 points ahead of the Devils on March 11 before Sveches injury and only 2 points ahead after that loss to Vegas when Svech was injured. In the interest of the facts lol.

I do agree getting a scorer at the TDL would have increased the chances of winning it all. That’s how the braves won the 2021 World Series (I’m also a Braves fan).

We did a good thing by renting Ghost, we needed another d-man who could run a power play or make a power play more dangerous in the late going by running him + Burns.  We knew going into that trade that it was most likely a rental and at worse you were getting defensive ability equal to Coglan.

A knee jerk move was made for Puljujarvi because we didn't have the cajones to go after someone else with more offensive upside.  He hasn't brought anything to the team and his fellow Finns aren't making him better.  We didn't lose anything really because Puistola hadn't signed with us and there were no guarantee that he was so it's a wash really.

The Canes didn't do two things I thought they needed to do:  1.) like everyone here knows we didn't get a scorer or even a scoring threat who would have made this team more dangerous.  This was a huge error and we may pay for it more dearly than we thought the way things have played out the last month and 2.) I thought we should have dealt for another goalie.  I think Raanta has been better than Andersen this year and Koochie isn't ready.  We have maybe had a handful of games the goalie has "stolen" for us this year, but neither Raanta or Andersen with the injuries and the way they have played this year should ever be expected to steal a game here or there when you are in the playoffs.

The Bruins, Lightning, Rangers, and a case can be made that the Maple Leafs all have better goaltending than us.  That leaves us hanging out with NJ, the Islanders, the Panthers and the Pens as to what kind of goaltending are we going to get tonight.  I almost think the Isles and the Panthers have better goalie situations than we do at the moment and at least NJ has offensive firepower to overcome their goalies when they are bad.

We haven't been very good, overall, from an offensive perspective all season.  We have glimpses here and there of Aho, Svech, or Necas putting on a show for us but then they disappear for long stretches.  Our PP is not good and is it really a great thing when your defense is scoring at a higher clip than your offense?  Yeah, it would be if our O was just as good or better but they aren't.

I said it months ago:  either Rod turns the team loose and tries to win 5-4, 4-3 games or he makes this team the second coming of the NJD trap teams from the 90s if we have any shot to raise a Cup.  The way we play now isn't going to do it.

This is the way.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
