Because that’s where Person mocked him? 👀

props to Joe for finally getting something right in his career, helluva hit rate with 4/5 right guesses.

I think there is consensus that drafting him in the third was a reach.

NFL.com had him as a 3rd-4th rd projection.  TDN a 4th.   Brugler a 4th/5th.

Bottom line is we landed someone that we targeted and wanted via trade-up--that combined with being a perceived reach makes it a bit unique.

Being that specific, targeted trade-up to 80 using 93 and 132 is simply what makes people irk.  If we waited and he was there at 93, I think it would be bit more digestible.  But, I mean, considering it was just #132 used, at that point in the draft, odds become so slim.  Why not just use 132 to land a guy you want rather than wait for the best available guy that falls to 93?

Sure, it was a bit reach-y & it will be mildly annoying if he's a mid-round miss, but we've had plenty of those and should be used to them.  Although Brady C. is working out so we should wait and see.

My 2 cents is that they clearly weighed the EDGE need more than BPA after picking Mingo, which made this a need-based pick given other positional talent available.  Our guys clearly had him in mind over Diaby, McGuire, KJ, etc. at EDGE, so I don't think what we did is too detrimental or anything.

The big, calculated move in this draft was taking Mingo which greatly impacted our need v. BPA scale.

It tells me we didn't have many trade takers at 39 and went with our #1 offensive weapon available.  I have to think MicDonald IV & Derick Hall were two we really wanted on defense.  Awesome length, high upside, good Burns compliments. The run-D capable EDGE was the huge need, and as great of an EDGE class this was, the ones strong in run defense were much more limited/and went early.  Those two had the traits Fitt kept describing at edge defender.

Once both were gone, that changed our strategy completely.  We did not have guys like BJ, Tuli, Foskey, White rated highly enough to consider over Mingo or worthy of that 39 selection.  Changed the whole direction of the draft.

EDGE is a highly valuable spot in our new defense and I can't imagine we're set banking on a competition between DJJ and YGM.  Evero's old pal in Leonard Floyd makes too much sense in my opinion.

Yea I don’t disagree he was a slight reach, the only reach we had imo, but Person’s guess about what round he’d go in shouldn’t be used as a reference heh. In the end, there was a run on pass rushers and the team wanted to make sure they got a guy they liked that fit their system so they had to pounce. For all we know he could have been the next pass rusher taken and then we’d have been left without one.

See, that's the thing. Nobody knows? We got guys we wanted. The Lions are in the same boat. They got the guys they wanted. It just cost more that pundits thought they were worth.

I love being a fan. And this place has been a God Send. When the Observer crashed in what 08? This place was the only place worthy. And for the most part, it still is.

I love this place. And I am so happy things are trending upwards. But hey, that could be just me.

    • You’re playing madden we’re talking real football stuff…. He does have you seen his special on internet he def thinks he’s getting paid
    • Without the team having an identity kinda hard to predict what they value.  They either are really trying to build a balanced team, or preparing for another swing at qb if Bryce doesn’t pan out. Seems like we value the o line but the $ spent there has been underwhelming besides Lewis, you could say it’s because of injuries but still hasn’t been worth the investment. as already stated, the whole handling of Bryce young as a whole has been ass backwards, we spent the years we’re supposed to take advantage of having a qb with a lower cap hit, building the team up to be adequate. now It appears, key word appears, the saints have done it correctly, which is painful to even think about. Regardless, I hope the front office has paid attention to qb contracts recently, such as Tua, Kyler, Daniel jones(pre colts) and don’t settle for subpar qb play at franchise qb rates
    • This is the flaw in your logic.  Cutting 3 of our best players will somehow move us from whatever we are to "compete". Even the most Young super fans are not predicting a ceiling above top 10-12, and that will not nearly cut it.  Someone will need to break the log jam of QBs getting nothing or North of 50. Our qb is at best a middle ground, lets hope it will be us that also manage to pay the worth at about 100 over 3 years.  And before you jump me, yes that is only of he improves.
