Meh, part of the fun of camp and preseason is seeing which of the long shots will actually make it. Everybody likes a good underdog story.

Yeah but the investment level by some of these guys is completely insane.

Every year it is the same thing, predictions that "XYZ" UDFA is going to be a starter, All Pro, HOFer, etc.

The odds are astronomical for most of those scenarios.

It’s also not…

He had 9 in 2021 (13 games played) and 4 in 2022 (5 games played).

https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/Eku-Leota/82363/draft-profile

He played 12 games in 2021 when he had 7. He played 5 games in 2022 and had 2.
That’s 9 in 17 games. Or 13 in 25 games if counting the 2020 8 games.

Watched this guy for two years. He was a plus SEC player. Paired well with Derrick Hall. I think he has a real chance to stick on the roster.

Same page--if you look at my mocks, I had the Panthers taking him as an UDFA every time.  He has a decent chance of sticking on the roster, an almost guaranteed chance of making the PS.

That’s incorrect.

He definitely played 13 games in 2021 and 5 in 2021. Auburn’s official stats confirm it.

Defensive stats at the college level are also recorded by the team and are unofficial. As someone who recorded defensive stats for a college football program and I have a lot of knowledge about how it works. When PFF reviewed film and recorded their stats, they likely gave half sacks on certain plays which made up the difference. Overall, defensive stats at the college level are very subjective. Additionally, you can have scenarios where one individual gives a TFL because they think it’s a designed run and another gives a sack because they think it’s a scramble.

To me, I just see them moving YGM to a 4-3 team--not sure he is a fit now. If that is the case, a strong OLB with Johnson could be in the cards--however, I see PS all over him for now.

The players I think have the best chance of making the active roster?  Wright (CB) and maybe Peoples (RB) right now.

    • I hate to praise Atlanta but what they did was not dumb. The only issue is where they drafted Penix. #8 overall was very high for a QB with Penix’s injury history. But it wasn’t a bad decision. I wish the Panthers took a broader approach to finding a franchise QB after Cam.  Cousins is old and recovering from a serious injury, so he is obviously a temporary placeholder. It makes sense they hedged their bet on Cousins, because Atlanta was burned by holding onto Matt Ryan too long while his skills degraded. If Cousins can still play, Penix gets to sit on the bench and learn which has proven to be a winning strategy for developing young QBs. If Cousins sucks or gets hurt again, they have a legit backup plan to see what they have in Penix.  Where are the Panthers if Bryce gets hurt or sucks again this season? The season is over and they’ll be considering drafting another QB next year.
    • Same as when Jordan Gross said that having to block Julius Peppers made him a better player. But I mean no sh*t, having to block one of the best DE’s of all time will up your game. I bet Gross went up against other DE’s in games and was like, this is nothing. Horn isn’t that level of player obviously, but Legette has his work cut out for him going against Horn in practice. The coaches should be able to tell pretty quick what they have in Legette.
