We haven't even seen the kid play yet. Im not writing off Lance until he gets some meaningful playing time. Injuries seem to be his biggest concern as of now.

Lolllll put your pen away then my guy because he's not seeing the field. He's behind Brock obviously and Sam D when do you expect him to see meaningful playing time?

Ummm preseason out there a lot would be my first guess. See how he does and where he falls in terms of the depth chart after that if he remains healthy.

Agreed. I just want the kid to get a fair shot at playing before we judge him. People calling him a bust is unfair until we actually see him play games.

San Fransico is literally the perfect place for both Purdy and Lance. The coaches seem to think Purdy is the better QB so far. That could change down the line but you never know with injuries and stuff like that.

I thought Darnold would be opening day starter honestly. But Purdy seems to be ahead of schedule.

Agreed. Injuries have really screwed him. If he can somehow keep away from the injury bug he could be pretty decent if he gets a chance to develop.

 Someone has a temper problem.

This was not the first time Kelce got involved in a heated scuffle during the training camp. The day before, he had a confrontation with a referee, which included more than usual extracurricular activity during practice.

Additionally, Kelce had a previous altercation with cornerback Dicaprio Bootle, who also attempted to swipe at the ball after the play had ended. Safety Bryan Cook and running back La'Mical Perine had to intervene to separate them.

"Gotta be a better teammate gotta be a better leader... plain and simple," Kelce tweeted on Saturday.

 https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/sony-michel-abruptly-retires-from-nfl-two-time-super-bowl-winning-running-back-calls-it-quits-at-age-28/

Sony Michel has decided to retire.

McVay said the running back officially gave him the news during a meeting early Saturday.

"We got a chance to meet [Saturday] morning and he was just kind of letting me know how his body was feeling and just some of his thoughts," McVay said of Michel. "And I think the most important thing is that he has clarity and feels at peace with the decision and what a competitor. I was sad for us, but I was happy for him and I know he gave a lot to this game and he can be really proud of everything that he's done and I'm looking forward to seeing what's next in his next chapter."

Michel's surprising decision to retire comes barely one month after he had made the decision to return to the Rams. After winning a Super Bowl with the Rams in 2021, Michel signed with the Chargers in 2022 before making the decision to re-sign with McVay's team late last month.

...Michel only played five seasons

They traded a TON to go up and get him. You really don't think they've given him every opportunity? I think he probably just sucks and he's fragile to boot. At least the guy made life changing money for himself and his family.

I wanted to draft him and thought he had "it" factor. Now it seems he will be out of the league once his contract is done.

scarey part o0f this whole trading picks for him, is that 49er roster maybe the best in the NFL. think about if that had not wasted those picks and a few more A+ players on rookies deals...

I could coach their defense.

I was terrified of a small school QB with only one year of starting experience. When he looked terrible throwing the ball in his one game before COVID shutdown his final season I was pretty much all the way out on him, at least as a high 1st rounder. If he fell, sure at some point in the draft his talent would've been well worth the smaller risk. Trading up to take him high in the 1st though? I always thought that was a reckless gamble.

How do you get opportunity when you can't stay healthy?

This seems like a kid who just can't stay healthy. Kind of hard to prove yourself when you in rehab most of the time.

He may indeed just suck like you said. I just want to see him on the field before I actually write him off.

You ever play?

You have to be able to beat the guy in front of you in practice, before you get to play in the games.  You may need to see him "prove" it on the field, but the coaches don't.

It's never been the injuries.

The whispers that he hasn't been able to pick up the offense have been around forever. And despite denials from the 49ers, they haven't gone away. If anything, they've gotten louder.

I've said before that Lance is an example of why the whole "take the athlete and coach him to be a quarterback" approach isn't a safe practice. In this case, it looks like it's turning out to be a massive error.

Yup.  I think in years past, that could, and would work, but not in todays NFL.

    • Nothing wrong with starting to look for bodies early. It's a long injury filled season. I doubt we get through unscathed.
    • We're in alignment regarding Thielen not being a game changer/breaker for the Panthers. Getting the ball into hands of playmakers like TMac and XL is going to open up things more than it is getting it to Thielen underneath (or letting him go after 50/50 balls 20yds downfield in his mid-30s). However, in a room where the other guys are two second year guys and two rookies, having a reliable vet that they can learn from is just as important as it is for the QB to have as a reliable third option. I can see that being worth $8.5M (just 3%) of the $279.2M cap... especially when looking at what's left out there: https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/_/position/wr However, the idea that the team is forcing production to Thielen and leading to losses isn't supported by the data. Targets, not receiving yards, are how you can tell if a player is being "force fed." In the two games mentioned, let's look at the other players available... vs. TB 10 targets - Adam Thielen 9 targets - David Moore 8 targets - Tommy Tremble, Xavier Legette 3 targets - Jonathon Brooks 1 target - Dan Chisena, Feleipe Franks, Stephen Sullivan vs. PHI 11 targets - Adam Thielen 8 targets - Xavier Legette 5 targets - Chuba Hubbard, David Moore 2 targets - Tommy Tremble 1 target - Ja'Tavion Sanders, Deven Thompkins There isn't exactly a bounty of other names to throw the ball to. In those games, AT was one of the top 2 WRs. Diontae had been gone by that point.   So... yea. Agreed that Thielen isn't exactly carrying the team in his mid-30s, but it's undeniable that he was the most reliable target last season that still has quite a bit of value this season. Whether or not that value is reflected in a manner folks think on the contract is going to come down to personal taste. However, the idea that the team was forcing production to AT and that was the reason behind some losses couldn't be further from the truth.
    • I would also add that I think it's more than money.  AT has looked absolutely miserable out there at times, and there was a lot of speculation he would demand to be traded.  Personally, I thought he was a lock to be moved last year.  Maybe his hamstring is the only thing that prevents that from happening. The fact that he's not only willing to come back and play, but excited about it, really bodes well for Bryce.  AT is a veteran and he knows the game.  If he didn't have confidence in Bryce, I guarantee you he wouldn't be in a Panther uniform this year.  I'll take that as a positive.
