Yup.  I think in years past, that could, and would work, but not in todays NFL.

It can if they've already shown some actual quarterbacking ability and at least a collegiate level of brain power, but this idea that you can just take a raw athlete and train him to have pro level quarterbacking skills (accuracy, especially) is bound to fail way more often than it works.

I always liked Parcell's vision of what he wanted from a college QB, need to look it up, but I think it was something like, start 30 games, win 20, pass for 60%, etc, etc, etc...

I'll see if I can find it, but typically the guys that do what he said he wanted seemed to have a good chance at long term success, at least in the 80's, 90's and 2000's.

Numbers only tell part of the story everyone with eyes saw him throw a check down behind the line of scrimmage with a playoff game on the line. No one with any self respect or awareness would compare that to Joe Burrow except talking head bros looking for clicks. He isn't without talent but his playoff rep is what it is.

In a game of inches and turnover battles.. you choose one play to make a point. Interesting approach.

We can squabble over Kirk's numbers but can we agree linking him with Burrow to soften his playoff record is a stretch? Burrow has already led his franchise to a Super Bowl by age 25 and the Bengals have been one of the worst teams in the league for years.

That isnt the topic of the video. I know you just commented on it and did not watch it, so I will provide a summary for you.

The topic is around how these two guys get completely rated on the opposite sides of the spectrum yet have very similiar stats in playoffs, but their defenses are completely oppopsite of each other. They spoke to examples of which the defense bailed Joe Burrow out and he could easily be 1-5 as well with his playoff record. Example provided:

They said it's their fault that these two guys are graded the way they are because it's the media job to create contrast and conflict. They also did say that they both deserve scrutiiny because they are in the most scrutinized position on a football team and are paid handsomely.  However, they went on the defense of Cousins and said that he does get it more than other QBs and people to blindly look away from the Vikings defense.

All this to say.... the perspective of Cousins is skewed and if you compared him statistically he is up there near QBs like Burrow for elite play.

So the topic isnt Cousins being better or as good as Burrow, but rather he isn't the choke artist of the Vikings, the Vikings are the choke artists as whole.

I agree with Frank. Cousins has shown repeatedly that he can't get it done in the post season. Burrow has taken a moribund franchise and turned them into winners. Case Keenum did more with the Vikings in the post season than Cousins has. Wrap your head around that one.

Case Keenum was one of the best backup QBs in the league... you make it sounds like he was bad... the dude had:

15k passing yards
63% completion %
78:48 TD:INT
85.2 QBR

Crazy that you are asking someone to wrap their head around that guy winning a playoff game.... lol. That was also the playoff game where Diggs caught the pass where the saints defender whiffed and he had the walk off TD. Crazy ending.

On a bit of an aside...what awful awareness from those non-Hubbard Bengals players on that return lol that stuff always annoys me.  Three of them almost let one dude sneak up from behind because they're just nonchalantly running alongside Hubbard.  Could've easily been called for a "block in the back" penalty too since they waited til the last second to do something about the guy in pursuit.

haha it probably should have been ... its pretty clear the player has their hand on his back and pushes him down.

Right, he's a great backup QB, not a 40 million dollar per year supposedly franchise guy like Cousins. He got the Vikes to the NFC championship game. I get all the nuance and it is a team game, but the QB has to get some post season wins to be considered elite. Especially one making as much $$ as Cousins. Bill Parcells said it best, "Don't tell me about the pain, show me the baby" , meaning results are what matter.

    • It is all confusing and layered. SB is the cash you get very soon within weeks or in simple terms, its what you get to sign the paper work. Players and agents can agree on contract but what to "wait" to sign......teams don't like that cause you can "Carlos Boozer" yourself. In order to get that ink dry, while keeping the contract the same, portion it as a bonus to "sign" and get the funds with ________ .   * But Ive seen worded contracts that split the SB or a 20% to a later date. The beans counters can fill in the details about why certain dates are better and save the team money.. Theres tricks to the trade and accounting is full of them.    Ugh another big layer, is SB can be used to manipulate cap and players. Ill try to give a example that makes enough sense. Believe it or not having a owner like Tepper is a cheat code for this. He has cash in hand, where as Mark Davis had problem making pay roll and had to move the team to Vegas....... Tepper can give you 100,000,000 SB right now and the team can spread out the cap hit. Another owner doesn't have or want to give the player 100,000,000 in cash, but offered the same guaranteed contract in roster bonuses fully guaranteed over the next few years........ Which one do you want??? Everyone wants the money now, not before another inflation waves hits in 2 years. So it does 'pay" to have a owner like tepper that's able to have real cash on hand, while it also works GREAT for cap help. Heres a good video, if you can stand coked up pat and mask look-a-like AJ
    • I don't know. CMC is like others and may have lip serviced that line of " I had no plan or wanted to leave Carolina" I think he even said he bought a house too and wanted this to be home.   Here's what I heard- In a way Panthers org gave him a test and he didn't "fight" back. They approached CMC and told him they wanted to put him on IR since the "season" was over or out of playoff reach. CMC didn't fight it one lick and agreed. They secretly wanted him to kept playing or want to, but there was no kickback. I honestly don't know if its real or not, 5th hand information type deal doing on. Yes he had bruises and pains, but was able to play...... but went along with Panthers staff. Odd to be playing games with star players, but whatever....   Plus the staff doctors found out about his tendinitis and there was nothing to fix it. Even with him missing time, it was the best move to trade him before he got inflamed constantly.    Lastly, its mostly time a combo of stuff, Fitterererere did not sign him to be the highest paid RB. That was classic Marty "give me a" herniay doing. GMs have different values on roster spots and rumor was Fitterererer was one that didn't want to pay RBs. For all his faults, he's right about that......
