I agree we don't want to rush him in any way.  One thing I posted back when he injured his knee was that it wasn't a complete tear of the ACL and that was good news.  In fact, Svech wanted to brace his knee and continue playing but got shut down by RBA and the committee. 

So his recovery time isn't as long as a full tear, but I am right there with you - give him the most time to rehab and strengthen that knee/leg as much as possible.

We don’t need him until late December anyways. If Aho/Staal can rally the boys. Get some season under our belt. I’d say hold him until after the Allstar. But that wouldn’t happen.

Sorry, I'm kinda pissed. I really like this kid and I think he'd fit really well in RBA's system and he could have been signed for cheap. A 6'2" 230lb left wing with the proven skill set to score 25-30 a year. 10th overall pick in the 2014 draft and he's only 27. He's been wandering around the past couple years, but he was solid his first 5 years in Anaheim.

Nick Ritchie is still unsigned. But the Canes signed LeMieux instead.

Well when we are knocked out of the playoffs again, maybe Waddell will finally address our need instead of fixing everything else but what it actually is.

I think they want someone that isn’t another reclamation project or chance. Ie pool party or patches.  Rod wants someone he can count on day 1 to help us win. Something is coming….

I think Coghlan gets put on waivers and that’s it.

Bunting - Aho Jarvis

Teravainen - Kotkaniemi - Necas

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Lemieux - Drury - Noesen

Other Options - Ponomarev, Rees, Suzuki

Slavin - Burns

Orlov - Pesce

Really only a couple things to iron out.

- I for sure don’t see any use for Coghlan, try to ship him somewhere for a sixth round pick or something or just waive him.

- If Svechnikov starts on IR then he won’t count against the roster which opens up room for someone else. If he doesn’t start on IR then the Canes will probably have to assign Kochetkov to someone’s AHL team along with Ponomarev, Rees, and Suzuki as the roster would be full (13 forwards, 8 defensemen, 2 goalies).

- If Svech does start on IR then the Canes can either choose to keep three goalies or move Kochetkov to the AHL and keep one of Ponomarev, Rees, or Suzuki up.

I personally hope that we don’t rush Svech and let him take his time. In the meantime, I’d use the fact that Kochetkov is waiver exempt to our advantage and send him to the AHL so that he can get games (apparently we have an assignment agreement with two unnamed teams this year while we search for our new AHL affiliate). With Svech on IR ane Kochetkov in the AHL, I’d keep up Ponomarev.

My opening night roster would be:

Bunting - Aho - Jarvis

Teravainen - Kotkaniemi - Necas

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Drury - Ponomarev - Noesen

Lemieux

Slavin - Burns

Orlov - Pesce

Skjei - Chatfield

Jones - DeAngelo

      If Mays has a market, which it seems he will, he's gone.  I think we bring back Nijman for too much money to be cautious at LT, Corbett comes back cheap since he's already said he wants to live in CLT, and Christensen eventually gets re-signed with the hopes he can be depth at some point.  Draft an OT, draft a C. The OL might be rough for stretches next year, but time to get some youth there to prepare for Bryce in 2027 or the next QB. I still think we compete for the division in 2026 and can go back to the playoffs unlike the oddsmakers in Vegas, but the *real* year is 2027 IMO. Either Bryce has proven it and he's the QB looking at his 2nd contract, or we have the ready-made team for the next rookie QB or Vet we trade for.

      The Panthers are going to have a lot more flexibility in free agency than it looks like at first glance. On paper, the cap space might seem tight, but there are several obvious restructure candidates that could easily free up significant room. Between converting base salaries into signing bonuses and spreading cap hits out over future years, Carolina could realistically clear $60–80 million in additional space if they wanted to be aggressive. That kind of flexibility means they’re not stuck. They can extend key young pieces, add help along the offensive line, upgrade the defense, and still be strategic about value signings. Letting Cade Mays test the market makes sense from a leverage standpoint. If he’s willing to come back on a team-friendly deal, great, continuity on the line matters. But if his market price climbs, the Panthers should absolutely explore upgrades. The point is, this front office isn’t boxed in. With cap maneuvering and smart structuring, they have the ability to be active players in free agency rather than sitting on the sidelines like we are used too.
