Honest, sure. Objective? Not so much.

You do realize that you just made another definitive statement? Right?

Like I said. You're entitled to your opinion. But I would not think many folks around here are of a like mind.

Yeah, we would definitely be laughing at division rivals had they signed a TE to a 3 year/$21M contract who had 1700 yards over the course of five seasons with three different teams.

Sure stats matter. 177 catches for 1,718 yards, a 9.7 ypc, over 5 seasons. 14 tds, nearly half (6) in 2020 with the Falcons, which was his best season with 56 catches for 571 yards.

With those eye-popping numbers in mind, he is far more productive than Thomas or Tremble. Thomas is a waste of cap space, and Tremble is a maybe more of a H-back.

He catches almost 75% of his targets. If he had gotten targeted more, obviously, those stats would look so much better.

I think the most important part is his catch%. He is a safe safety valve.

It's not so simple to say that a guy catching 75% of his targets would perform so much better with more opportunities. Clearly three teams have decided that wasn't the case since they didn't use him more. We're betting on that being the case. I hope we're right and those other three teams were wrong but cherry picking numbers and selective narratives to fit a viewpoint are pretty comical if I'm being honest.

Sure they do. They're not good. 1718 yards and 14 TDs over 5 seasons. That's 344 yards and 2.8 TDs per season for reference. He's averaged 25 receiving yards per game played.

Well Sam Howell only had 169 passing yards and 1 TD his entire rookie year.  Sure, he wasn’t the starter, but that doesn’t appear to matter to you when considering stats.

If after 5 years the stat being quoted about a first round pick is that he’s got a good catch percentage, the player has not lived up to being a first round pick. It’s really that simple. It is funny to see people get so upset about preseason rankings and realistic talk about players who haven’t even played a game for us yet. We certainly wouldn’t be scared of Tampa or Atlanta if Baker and Ridder were throwing to Thielen, Chark, TMJ and Hurst. As that one article said, most obsessive fans.

I’m all in on Young and I hope he makes this crew look better than they are. We do need skilled position upgrades if we want to do more than compete in a bad division.

He was a 6th round pick, not a 1st so seeing the field in year 1 and looking like the starter in year 2 is exceeding expectations. Apples and oranges.

Rhule gave Ian Thomas 16 mil over 3 years one season ago. He has managed less thank 1k in that same 5 year timeframe as Hurst with his best season coming his rookie year.

I think we can all agree Hurst is better.

Also, only 13 Million of that contract is guaranteed for Hurst (Thomas will get roughly 8-9 Million when it's all said and done thanks to the guarantees and restructure). Neither will see the full value of either contracts.

You can be a bust (which is just about draft position/expectations)......and be a safe safety valve in the league.

 2 things can be true.

I don't see a Bust having a 75% catch rate.

I don't see a Bust turning 55% of those catches into 1st downs,

I don't see a Bust getting a 3 year deal.

But hey, maybe that's just me.

No one here is saying Hurst is an All Pro candidate. But the numbers show that with more targets, he could be something pretty good.

Calling him a Bust because he played second, and third fiddle is rather disingenuous.

    • I miss many of the OGs like @ladypanther Zob had a bad off week and came in here to do some mopping and a couple of the 10 year 15k post account he just banned over a silly disagreement, just odd behavior from Zob. A Pessimal deal happened with Lady and others. I tired to find a new forum and could not get around the signing up part...same for discord. Its not perfect here by any means, but I still feel welcomed here for the most part and this place does have the most freedom. I hate how the right vs left BS nearly cooked this place, I still believe in removing the litterbox, toxic as hell and lollolols @ anyone coming into a team forum to talk about pointless politics of the uni party turds.  @Bear Hands you saved this place with your activity. It helped offset the lost of OGs and the knowledgeable that leftd.    It would help for new members and I do get the spammers deals, just got to mod them away and hope opening the door brings in fresh blood.
    • Young went to bama and Brissett went to nc state.
    • That seems about right. No higher than that for a bottom third qb with two years left, including one expensive year. He played well enough last year to show he is startable. It depends on whether other teams thought he has any upside left and whether he's been hindered by coaching and surrounding cast. I think most teams would answer no, but if they thought he could step it up just a little I could see trading a fourth or fifth for a bridge guy/top tier backup.
