I agree.  I think if you reordered things and start with Bryce Young.  A lot of the guys we have wouldn't be guys we would ideally want.  Icky seems like he belongs on John Fox team.  Running at dudes and going play action off it.  Sort like where he made his progress at last season.  We knew coming in he leaned toward being a run blocker.  And that just isn't the scheme you want in the end for Bryce Young.  You want to set him back in shotgun and let him pick on a D.

I was always a huge huge fan of Charles Cross. He was the easy LT #1 for us last year BUT I think Ickey can develop into this. With Cross you just get refined pass blocker coming from the air raid who needs to work on run blocking vs the exact opposite with Ickey. It’s a passing league so shocked we didn’t take Cross. Ickey will get there though, just may be some growing pains.

This is a good article that breaks down the top 3 OTs in his draft and how they did their rookie year. Icky was right there with Cross with pass protection, had far less blown run blocks and less penalties. I think we made the right choice, but this next year or two will tell more of the story.

That’s very misleading though. Cross played in an air raid. I will admit I’m bias because I’m a state grad but I watched every snap of that man’s career and he was an absolute wall on Will Roger’s left side for 50-55 pass attempts per game

This was data from their rookie season in the NFL I believe. It’s mainly showing how bad Neal was this past year.

Gotcha, good data then. Either way I’m expecting growing pains for him but he’s too good not be good a solid LT in the NFL once he gets some more time in this system

Yeah it’s showing how Icky and Cross are a good bit ahead of Neal in terms of becoming a great young LT. I will say the Seahawks like to air it out, so Cross had the more difficult job last season.
