Let me be the first to apologize to Geoff Schwartz. I thought he was going to get owned like a rented mule. He held is own for the most part and looked a lot better than I thought he would.

On some Vikes boards I checked out last night there was some major complaining about how Schwartz was owning their DE.

Personally my response was more like: "Damn if only Otah had been there we would've had three more yards and a chance to bust one loose."

Schwartz had some assignment errors, but he played very well for the most part. That one play with the end-around to Smitty, where Ray Edwards tackled Smitty in the bakcfield.. that was Schwartz' fault.. Smitty looked like he got his bell rung too..

I don't think he missed a block on the end around. Those plays are designed to get everyone flowing in one direction to make it look like a run the opposite way, including the offensive line, which in turn makes the end suck down and think "run left". Looked to me like Schwartz did the right thing - make it look like an outside run left, in which case Edwards would be unblocked. Edwards started to suck in, but ended up realizing what was happening and made a disciplined play. Think 'Spoons tackle back in the Super Bowl (going way back here).

Considering the team he was up against, he did well for his debut as a starter. Not too shabby, and Wharton held down the other tackle spot well.

It looked like it was going to be a tough one for them early on, but the tight end help both received seemed to have made a big difference. Moore being able to roll out now and then helped the cause as well.

But the telling thing was the running game. Early on it looked like Double Trouble was In Trouble, but somehow the Big Uglies just got hold of the situation and started opening lanes. I like how they were pointing out Kalil's hard work, centers never get the praise they deserve.

(Of course, that snap snafu... well, let's give him a mulligan.)
