Could Fox resign??

It could be a longshot, but I have a feeling to prevent Fox being a lameduck in 2010, JR could politely ask Fox to resign behind the scenes. We all know he will coach somewhere in 2010, and while we have invited him back for next season, it remains to be seen if we will extend him. Just a gut feeling

He could but most coaches know that any extension is unlikely due to the potential lockout in 2011. If they get closer in the labor talks or come to an actual deal then you will see more extensions/negotiations.

Plus I'd be shocked to see Fox walk out on the last year of his contract when he is owed 6.5 million.

So I am gonna go with a "No."

JR would not let him break his contract without compensation from the other team in the form of picks.

Personally, I would be all for it.

I think that would depend on what JR's purpose is. If he allowed Fox to stay because he has a year left on his contract, and doesn't want to pay Fox and another coach, then he might be willing to let Fox go if Fox gets another offer. That would mean he would be free to hire another coach and not have to worry about paying Fox. On the other hand, if he really thinks Fox can win next year, then you might be right.

My thinking is that if Fox leaves, the Panthers are off the hook for his 2010 salary. Nobody wants a lame duck coach. I honestly don't believe Richardson would be so irresponsible as to not have a coach under contract for 2011.

I think Fox would want to go somewhere after this season, get a long-term contract at 5-6 million a season NOW (before a potential poor season as a lame duck coach in 2010), and have stability rather than stay here amid criticism and have an unclear future.

That's my thinking.
