Jake Delhomme would suck as a back-up!

yeah--- we wouldnt want someone who knows the whole offensive playbook in and out, has the respect of the players, and has experience at the position.

terrible idea....

Have you seen the stats on how the defense is playing since Matt has started? I'm not so sure that respect on the field is there anymore. As a person sure, but on the field? Nah.

I'd rather the backup be a young guy with potential, like Moore. Always someone who might be able to take over the starting spot should he progress enough. With Delhomme, you waste a roster spot on someone who is bad, will stay bad, and has no long term worth or prospects.

I doubt respect has anything to do with it. It is a combination of good offense, good field position and doing something we haven't done in the first 8 games, causing turnovers instead of committing them. If the defense had played this well all year, we would be in the playoffs. Moore's lack of turnovers have helped quite a bit but until the 4th quarter of the Minnesota game his offensive output was poorer than when we had Jake. Since then he has been lights out. Still we have kept our last 2 opponents well below their normal offensive outputs. And that has been the biggest difference.

And if Moore gets hurt like he did in the preseason in 2007 what have you got? Every team needs a veteran backup and I would prefer Jake over McCown or Feeley.

Getting rid of Jake and eating that much money is stupid. He is already guaranteed to get most of the money due to him. There is no guarantee that he will suck next year just like there was no guarantee he would do well this year based on the last 6 years. He is the definiton of a back-up. An experienced veteran who knows the offense and can win a few games for you if needed. Most of you wanting to dump him are afraid he might start again and want to ease your worries. He will likely be here next year because there isn't a cap. Now 2011 is another thing altogether. But then again football may not be here in 2011.

No he is truly terrible, not accurate at all, he has the mobility of your average household stovetop oven, he's injury prone, and as long as Fox is coaching and Jake is on the roster there will always be the misguided temptation to start him if Matt Moore has one or two bad games.

Someone said this earlier "Taking a 1 Million dollar hit is worth the risk of cutting Delhomme"

Jake's days are gone, he will not provide this team, especially Matt's confidence any kind of comfort.

Kinda like Romo and Bledsoe, if Dallas can get the point the Panthers better get the point.

Well said. The few Jake Slurpers can't seem to realize that Jake has lost it as an NFL QB and would be a distraction to the Panthers . He could very easily cause a locker room split, something the Panthers could ill affoard..

Like I said, fear that he might start again is driving this. He has been bad this year but he is not nearly as bad as portrayed by all you haters. And any backup that is available will have their issues and history of poor or inconsistent play. After all that is why they went from a starter to a backup, or perhaps have always been in a backup role.

That's a little inaccurate, this team has won games in spite of Jake's horrendous play, Nobody, and I mean Nobody can effectively play worse than Jake Delhomme.

That is not an exaggeration.

Im with the group that says move him, cut him, and go ahead and cut our losses. It's just going to be too much temptation for Fox to bring him in at some point, if he's on that sideline. We need to get a backup like Redman or Kitna. Moore should be the #1, F/A should be the #2, and possibly go with Cantwell as the #3.

Also, I've noticed a lot of ya'll want to draft a QB in this draft(Im not really down with this idea). Now, would you want a rookie coming up in here sitting and learning behind Jake??

Hell no. We need to cut him, and move on from the "Delhomme era".

tell the truth he is absolutely terrible.

the Panthers look completely transformed and re-invigorated after Moore took the reigns and has gone 3-1 against some tough competition overall, where the offense just could not move the ball very well, especially through the air when Jake was under center.

Oh wait, but wasn't this all Davidson's fault and not Jake's? OMG we always need something to defer the blame to because we are engaged in this fantasy of Jake Delhomme leading a last second touchdown drive and winning the superbowl and 40 year old Muhsin Muhammad dumping gatorade all over John Fox because that's our beloved QB and we just can't face the music.

It's over. He's finished, deal with it and lets move on.

He also played well a few games and that is what you want in a backup.

ORLY?

QB Rating = 59 WITH a completely healthy offense.

As I said earlier he had a bad year as a starter but he could win a few games and did this year.

Sounds like you are firmly in the fear group.

Redman and Kitna? Seriously?

Cantwell as a third instead of a drafted guy? Seriously???

Moore has played well and deserves to start in my opinion but this is not what we are discussing so why bring it up? We are talking backup only and in that role jake would be fine and we already committed money we will lose already one way or the other.

This is not about bringing Jake back as the starter simply the best way to salvage the situation as it stands. For me you start Moore, keep Jake as the backup and bring in a FA or a draft choice to compete for the third position or the number 2 if Jake continues to struggle.
