Jake Delhomme would suck as a back-up!

Who knows what will happen. Again he is available, paid for, and as good as a lot of other backups.

But not as good as

Chris Redman

Bruce Gradkowski

Seneca Wallace

Tarvaris Jackson

Chad Henne (he was a backup)

Vince Young

Shaun Hill

Matt Leinart

who have all outplayed him this season. there are probably more

True, and there are many low priced rookies or second year prospects out there than can hand the ball off as good as anyone. They also have an upside of possibly improving as starter or trade material.

And you run the risk of Moore going down and you got nobody to lead the team. The upside young guy is the third quarterback rarely the second unless it is necessity. Look at Indy last Sunday, they had nobody when Manning was benched.

As for just handing it off, you know better. What set up Stewart in the Giants game was Moore toasting them by throwing TDs. Teams would load 10 guys in the box without a passing threat.

I find it funny fans don't think too much about paying Peppers over 20 million this season and actually only really playing the latter half. Then when you mention paying off Delhomme's 5-year contract for a bit below 13 million to cut him is some big deal.

Of those you named, how many are available, are also an unrestricted free agent and would come cheaply.

Anyone can throw out names.

Contracts don't work that way. You don't pay him off. If you let him go all his money will be due in 2010 which will end the contract and obligation. If you are going to do that then next year would be the time. Stll that decision doesn't have to made until final roster cuts next year.

No, you just said he was as good as many other backups, not as good as many other backups that would be available at the end of the year.

and that's what you think jake is.

i'm guessing you missed the Philly game, the Dallas game, the Bills game, and the Jets game.

Seriously is this all you got??

That's a little inaccurate, this team has won games in spite of Jake's horrendous play, Nobody, and I mean Nobody can effectively play worse than Jake Delhomme.

That is not an exaggeration.

Ummm......I'm sure JaMarcus Russell (there is a reason why he isn't the starter right now despite being a 1st round pick last year), Feeley, Carr (there is a reason why we got rid of him & why we went 7-9 when Jake went down & Carr played), & few others are far worse than Jake. Jake is terrible lately, but there are others worse than him. It's fine you think Jake is terrible lately, but to deny there are other worse than him is being a little too biased. Sorry, but I can't see Jake as being the only worse QB than any other in the NFL, even the backup. Guess you think Grossman is better, huh? :P

Guess you miss the game against the Cards, home against Atlanta, & at Tampa where Jake was playing. He didn't lose the games for them there, did he?

I'd rather call Vinny back off the street than send Jake back out on the field. Hell, even picking up Favre after his upcoming 3rd retirement would be better. All the areas Delhomme has an upper hand in (knowing the playbook, players, etc.) doesn't mean anything if you can't even complete a pass to your own team. Maybe it's just a funk but it is hard to figure when it happens week after week. He might get lucky and not throw any picks if he was called upon and we run the ball every play.

The Raiders are just LOL, The Panthers Are one of the most talented teams in the NFL.

If you fail as a Carolina QB, your are indeed pathetic.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
