Somebody here begged for us to draft Howell. Many here laughed and mocked me when he bafflingly fell to the 5th.

Well, call the Commanders and offer Bryce Young for Sam Howell straight up if you want to hear laughter and mocking now.

So many people talked so much poo about him and he always looked way better than they graded him.

He was my 'why the hell shouldn't we' in that class.

Keep in mind, Howell is on pace to get sacked more than David Carr did as a rookie. Still ballin'.

Getting hit and still making it happen is a job requirement of QBs in the NFL. That or being fast enough to run away. So....

Yeah, being able to operate under pressure is just a way of life in the NFL. Especially as spread type offenses have become more the norm. With more receivers and fewer blockers the ball better be coming out really fast or you better be good at delivering the ball with a defender hearing down on you, sometimes both.

I’m sure it’s informative. No knock on your post, I’m just not interested in hearing anything more about Young. His performance speaks volumes.

I mean, the review gives him a D grade so far. I know this is the soft days of 2023 where no one gets below a 50 on their school work and all, but in ye olden days, a D in school was defined as "unsatisfactory".

I think most will say "unsatisfactory" is an appropriate description for his year so far.

Would you prefer F-? Even if grading on a curve, that's an unjustifiable mark.

    • Then why are they paying QBs so much compared to other players? QB are making so much it's harder and harder to pay other players. If a guy plays like 1 of 11 then there pay should be in line with that. Not all QB should be breaking the bank just because your next or a former 1st rounder There is a reason they say try to win it all on a QB rookie deal because after that they can cripple a team on what it can do. I would rather not do that for a bottom 1/3 QB. Cam and Jake have been the only QBs worth investing long term into this team has had I would rather not lower the bar. If a guy don't got the IT factor and it shows I would rather not invest long term into them and keep looking

    • I mean, I hear what y'all are saying, but Derrick could have been positive without being negative.  He essentially accused people of not seeing Bryce's improvement because of their desire to not be wrong. He could've kept it about Bryce and the team. For example, he could've said: "Bryce has made strides, and we believe in him. This coming season, his continued improvement will turn a lot of people into believers."  That would've been supportive of his teammate and sent a message to the doubters. That being said, his tact almost summoned and left the door ajar for more skepticism. That's my take anyway. Bryce has improved from the bottom to perhaps skirting the line between the bottom third and mid-third at best...after three seasons. We've all seen it. Yay! In my mind, Bryce has still got a long way to go and a short time to get there, but my expectations are top five--at least top 10--always! Yes, I am a fan, so there's that, but I don't believe it's unreasonable to expect excellence. Hopefully the Panthers FO has the same mindset (and that doesn't even necessarily have anything to do with what we gave up to acquire him). That is the lens I'm looking through. Derrick Brown has his homer glasses on. He just needs to be more diplomatic and thoughtful with his words in my opinion, but I get it that he's a good teammate.
