More Fox speculation from nfl.com...Browns possible

I don't think it's about the money, especially for a guy like Fox. He's made plenty of money at this point - he wants to establish his legacy as a winning HC and it's hard to picture him doing that with the Browns.

When he took the job with our 1-15 team, it was a promotion - so it made sense - but he's an established HC with a winning record now - why would he sign up for a team like the Browns who are in total disarray?

Well, although he does have a "winning" record its only due to the fact that his winning years are really good winning years...i.e 11-5 or better...now if you look at his full body of work as a HC for the last 8 years he has a combined total of 3 winning seasons! Now how established does this make him? So while his total winning % is .555 (barely 50/50) his season winning percentage is like .375!

If I were him, and of course I'm not, I would take any long term deal I could while the media is making me out to be something statistically I'm not!

Well yeah, but Fox is now an established HC on a decent team - why would he walk away from that to go coach the Browns???

To get a long term contract. It isn't a secret that Fox isn't happy knowing he isn't getting renewed and has no long term stability with the Panthers. By not giving him an extension, the Panthers forced Fox to either go to another team (which will require compensation), or step up his game in 2010 (maybe a pissed off Fox will be a good thing).

The only place i could see Fox leaving us for would be the NY Giants, if they were to fire Coughlin. I doubt very seriously he would take their DC job, but i have to give Fox credit in thinking he would stay here over going to the Browns. NY makes more sense to me....

One concern may be that if Fox leaves he may take guys like Meeks and Davidson with him. They may be more loyal to Fox than the Panthers. How does everyone feel about not only getting a new coach but having to replace everyone this year.

If Fox goes, it is a real possibility.

If we go out and get a big name like Cowher, they'll want to bring over their own people anyway. I think that's a wash.

They are under contract so the only way they could leave is if the Browns compensates us for them.

    • Kalkbrenner and Sion James received regular contracts and not two ways, so the Hornets have some work to do to cut the roster size down.
    • Gustavsson would be insane. I think we would have to break the bank to afford that move. Which, I don't think is necessarily a bad idea. Ultimately, Freddie isn't likely to be around more than a couple of seasons more. We can all agree that unless they have a fleet of sports psychologists working on Kochetkov, he will never be capable of getting his head on straight enough to compete.
    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
