the development of jeff otah

looks like a lot of people had high hopes for jeff this season. i saw some when asked, thought he'd have a pro bowl kind of season in his second season with the panthers. while he's been great in the run game he's been borderline horrible in the passing game. he often looks like he has lead feet when forced to pass block. it also seems like atleast once a game,he's rolling around on the ground with some phantom knee or leg problem that makes us all go oh no not again.what does the future hold for jeff and is he still on the upswing?

well he's on IR now, so we'll never know if he would've been pro-bowl-worthy or not. also, most fans aren't trained enough to be able to judge the caliber of an offensive lineman unless that lineman is unbelievably dominant.

he false starts a lot, so that's definitely a problem, and he does have pass protection problems - an area schwartz was definitely much improved in. run-blocking though... the man is an absolute steamroller... hard to argue with that. it's one of the reasons our run game has been so dominant.

He was midseason All-Pro for Peter King. Apparently the rest of the league disagrees with you as he is seen as one of the best RTs in the game.

He had some false starts, thats about it. I think he confusing Vincent with the holding calls and letting his man beat him for sacks

Otah was on some all-pro stuff before the injury

otah had 6 false starts, 0 holding, 5 sacks allowed.

sorry....not really seeing that as a weak point there. it isn't perfect but for a sophomore on a team with huge offensive problems for most of the year...i'd say he did pretty well.

phantom injuries? rolling on the ground? how often was that really seen? lol.

he hasnt completed a full season. and if u watch all the games like i do, u'd see he goes down more than the rest of the lineman(tho he gets back up most of the time) on the team.

I noticed that D'Brickashaw Ferguson was added to the pro bowl for the AFC this year. Here was his stat line- 16 games played, 8 penalties for 60 yards, 5 false starts, 2 holding penalties, 8 sacks allowed.

Here are Otah numbers- 13 games started, 7 penalties for 35 yards ( 6 false starts, 0 holding, 5 sacks allowed.

Yes he plays right side and Ferguson plays left side. Still the stat line by comparison suggests he is doing okay for a second year player.

just sayin...........................

    • Dave in a presser gassed up Anthony Tyus III and dying to see him on the field.  I mean 3 is all that needed right, and Dan loves etienne. He's one year filling in his body. If brooks is back, toss in chubba, thats 3.
    • After seeing hits in the last two UDFA pools, I do not in this group sorta of a let down after I gassed myself up.  Not like I know of their games, but just expected more. The duke DT only has to beat out hunte (2025 UDFA) or Ray (DL coach's kid) or even Cam Jackson mid 2025 5th.  I thought they would bring in more edges, IOL, TEs, etc...
    • My 2 favorite picks, since you didn't ask? 3. Brazzell II.  A 1000 yard WR with 4.37 speed and checks all the boxes for a Z Wide Receiver.  IN THE THIRD ROUND!!! 5.  Sam Hecht.  I think he will take over as the starter at some point this season and never look back.  IN THE FIFTH ROUND. Runner Up:  2. Hunter:  We were targeting a DT early in this draft because we did very little to replace Robinson in free agency.  Hunter was our guy and he will start. In addition to that, you got a starting tackle that should man one side of the new OL we will build for Bryce's second contract. A starting WR, offensive lineman, defensive lineman and possible Offensive tackle (at some point during this year from this draft will start.  UNREAL. In addition, I don't doubt that Wheatley (5th round) takes the FS job by next year and Lee III is Jackson's replacement in 2027.   Finally, even Kuwatch should be a special teams demon and LB depth.   Last year's draft was so good it was ugly.  This one will turn out to be uglier.  No offense Basbear--this ain't about you.
