5.7 Quake Hits Venezeula, Near Caracas

i stayed in caracas for about a week in '97. stayed at the hilton there, i think. first night there a car blew up on the street in front of the hotel. nothing like that happened the rest of the time that i know about.

when i flew into venezuela it was late at night and i took a bus into town. i was amazed at all the lights on the hills surrounding the city. i thought it was beautiful, like they had decorated it all. i woke up the next morning and all i could see surrounding the city on the hills was shanties....millions of them surrounding the place. those people were literally living one on top of another. i can't imagine that an earth quake there would go without tens of thousands of deaths.

well I gave all my money to Haiti so I have no more to give.....they'll have to make do with what they got....

when Hugo came through my town I didn't see MRE's, helicopters, free water, or other poo come through to my aid. They'll get 'er dun somehow.

    • The good thing about replacing a bad player is you really have nothing to lose. If their replacement is bad so what, you didn't get much worse and probably saved money.
    • I came over from the old Panthers Insider site. When Fox Sports bought that platform it slowly just started dying plus the guy who ran that site was dealing with some pretty significant health issues so the whole thing just slowly fell apart. Quite a few of us migrated over here. Not sure how many are still around.  I miss that place. It struck a nice balance of having enough active posters to keep productive conversation flowing but didn't have so much traffic that you end up with a lot of trolling BS. This place is getting there though since we shutdown new registrations but at some point we're going to have to open it back up or we'll watch this place slowly die off too as posters fall off for one reason or another. We just have to figure out a way to filter out the spam bots. It was a never ending battle to ban the spam bots to keep then from overrunning the site. You'd think they'd be a little more strategic. I mean, if you fill a site with nothing but spam people are just going to stop coming so it's not a sustainable model. But nope, every one of them makes dozens of duplicate threads filling up pages upon pages as soon as their account goes live.
    • lol...I don't remember that.  Although recalling what I had for breakfast yesterday is sometimes a challenge.  Hope it was a positive thing.
