Panthers Unlikely to Pursue Harbaugh

I don't think the football people should be tied too closely to Bryce, either, but I do think it may be in the team's longterm interest to skip investing in a new QB this offseason, and riding with what we have, probably giving BY half a season or so while we develop the rest of the team. We already have Dalton on contract for next year anyway, so if BY flames out as it seems is likely, we've got a good vet to man the ship.  But Tepper needs to also know this is the plan and not clean house right away, because it'll take time.

The one thing I DON'T want them to do is to trade more assets for another QB... And I feel like most of the options that'll be realistically available to us in FA will not be very good...

IMO, the best path forward is to bring in someone to legitimately push Bryce while putting the best team around them that we can. Whether Bryce works out or not provide the best path forward. But I don't think you can just hand Bryce the job again. Not after this disaster. There has to be a legit competition. If that's with Dalton honestly I'm fine with that. But you have to force Bryce to win a competition to get team bye in which means you also have to be willing to allow him to potentially lose that competition.

Harbaugh is just the man to do this... but homer simpson will have to admit some kind of defeat...not sure that will happen... if you want to turn this team around....Harbaugh will at least make us respectable in two years.... but dick pie has to blab his billions into the equation with his ego.... we're gonna stank for years if he doesn't change.  I guarantee hes trying to fast track the coach selection again... cause hes a dumbazz.

No chance he accepts that deal. It includes a no NFL clause. The removes all ability to get consistent pay raises.

Probably not, but it definitely establishes the base for his services. After getting burned by Rhule and Reich, you gotta think he's gonna be gunshy about needing to pay 15m or more per season guaranteed.

He'd pay whatever he needed too to get the guy he wants.  Rhule or Reich be damned.. he MAY go about vetting coaches differently but if it comes down to money he'll shell out whatever he needs to get the deal done.

    • I’m not mad at Moehrig.  He’s great at what he does.  And to be honest, a lot of my favorite safeties in our history were box-first type guys - Maxie, Minter, Mike Mitchell, Chris Harris…  they’re first and foremost objective was to put people on their backs and coverage was secondary.  There is a place for that.  There is a definite need for that.  Physical guys that set the tone.  So cool, we have that in Moerhig. But what we have lacked for the vast majority of our existence is a true free safety that cleans everything up on the back end.  Sometimes they come in the form of a JOAT, like Peppers.  I think he would be a fantastic compliment to Moehrig’s strengths and weaknesses.  If we don’t go after him, I certainly hope Ransom is given the chance to grow and develop in real-time with real game reps, because what he did in preseason was very encouraging to see.  I hope he can grow into that roaming center fielder with a little bit of an edge to him as an enforcer as well.  He has the tools.  In the meantime, adding Peppers would only help.
    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
