GM Offseason Simulation

Pejorative Miscreant

Recommended Posts

Scenario 1: You are GM of the Panthers and have just franchised your brilliant Van Gogh eccentric DE for a lot (did I say a lot) of money. What do you do in the off season FA. How do you approach the draft and who do you go after.

Scenario 2: You are the GM of the Panthers and have just ridded yourself of an elite albeit unreliable franchise DE. What do you do in the off season FA. How do you approach the draft and who do you go after.

Lets try to look beyond the obvious and see which picture looks better.

Scenario 2: After letting the less then stellar DE walk I would tender Moore signing some of our veteran players. I would go after a proven WR and then fill the rest of the roster spots through the draft. After training camp I would get rid of the overpriced QB and go into 2011 with my cap in good shape.

2. I cut Jake and Kemo.

Draft a Smitty esque WR who can return punts with the first 2nd round pick, trade up back into the 2nd round to draft an athletic LB to complete the corp.

Spend the most money on a good DE, then go after a big body WR

sign LT cheap just because i think it'd be really sweet to give the best RB duo the best mentor they could possibly have.

Pretty much. Use the loss of Peppers to fortify other trouble spots on the team. See how well my current DE's stack up. Address the need to upgrade if necessary after labor negotiations.

Scenario 2: I draft best available "Senior" WR in the 2nd round, grab best available QB in the 3rd. In free agency I go after Vanden Bosch to hold down the DE position while I wait for next years draft/FA to get another franchise DE. I cut Delhomme, re-sign McCown and let Feely walk. I name Moore the starter and have the 3rd Round draft pick QB compete with McCown for the #2.

Finally, and I'll stretch a bit on this one, I think you have to consider bringing in Antonio Bryant to legitimately compete for the number 2 spot (he has shown, so I hope he knows, he can't handle the number 1 spot), if I'm feeling a little less risky, I bring in the Texans Kevin Walters instead of Bryant and have him compete for #2 WR with my rookie/Jarret/Moose.

i think if this happened I would be a very happy man

scenario 2: I re sign Moore to a 3 year deal, let mccown and feeley walk. re-sign moose to a 1 or 2 year deal. sign Aaron Kampman, and Steve Breaston in FA. then draft a WR in the 2nd, a DE in the 3rd, and a QB in the 4th. Moore is named the starter, delhomme is #2 and the rookie is #3.

    • Trade up for a project was dumb, he's gonna be 25 next month. By the time you're deciding on whether he's worth the 5th year option or a big contract you're already gonna be thinking about moving on soon either way.
    • I mean this is legit AF statement....you don't spend that draft capital on a project just like you don't trade up for an injured RB either, which was done in the same draft.  That draft IMO was a necessary evil for DM to learn from his mistakes (I think he did but some may not). Also I have to mention I'm a big Coker fan and think getting him as an UDFA was obv a steal.  Coker is the better WR2 at this point as Legette and its not even debatable unfortunately.  Give him year 3 but don't expect much from him.  Continue in the offseason with adding as much talent and competition on the roster as possible including WR.  Or just trade his ass for peanuts and continue to build roster by any means.......
    • Losing him was a huge loss. Look at how the Bears went from a 5 win team to now a 11 win team. The Lions offensive line is bad this year, secondary is bad and Campbell going for it on 4th down all the time has cost them games instead of taking the Field Goals. Goff is inconsistent as well.
