DJ Moore’s 2 cents

You have to put fear in opponents, so much so that you're double or triple teamed on damn near every play, and still consistently produce. You have to be able to make FU plays when the whole world knows the ball is coming to you, and yet the opposition can't do a damned thing about it because of your route running and ability to get open, even when the game is on the line. When you are a true WR1, everyone knows you're that guy, without question. No excuses about the defensive scheme, the man (or men) on the other side of you, the QB who's throwing you the ball...you affect the play of others---your teammates and the opposition---with your very presence, particularly when the game is on the line and your number is called. The opposition just doesn't respect you, they fear you.

You’re describing all pro wide receivers. There aren’t many of those in the league.

I disagree about DJ, he's put up consistent numbers with a rotating door of crap at QB.

I'm not sure he has the outsized effect on the game Prime Smitty did though you have to remember that man was tripled every play for five seasons.... we had no other real threats.p

I don't think anyone is presenting an argument that Moore > DJ though.  89 and Julio were merely brought up as examples of TDs not carrying tremendous weight when evaluating a WR.....yet folks are fixated on that with DJ

There are like 5-7 of those in a given year.

Most people don't define a #1 in an offense by that standard.

Ain't got anything to do with ego. There are young receivers who thrive double-team or not. Moore just ain't one of them whether you, or anyone, admit the truth or not. Moore needs help, and always has, whether you, or anyone, admits the truth or not. And Moore is still not the route runner that superior receivers have been, whether you, or any Huddler, admits it or not. These truths do not make him an invaluable receiver, but it does mean that Jefferson, Chase, Hill, prime Kupp, prime OBJ, Smitty (prime or not), Andre Johnson, prime Mike Evans, prime Nuk, Antonio Brown...he's not.

You're talking about All-Pro wide receivers. Who wouldn't love to have one of those?

But DJ Moore is a #1. It is what it is. You have to accept you were wrong.

I don't know what you were watching but he saw double teams all year with Bears and still managed 1300 yards.  There were a lot of people on here that told me he was average, he was lazy and that Thielen was much better.  I am ecstatic he is on the Bears. Dude never complained, played through injuries and finished with a career high in yards, that's without anyone on the opposite side.

There is always a "#1 in an offense," so that's effectively a non-starter as far as debate is concerned. That doesn't necessarily define a true #1.

We may not agree what a true WR1 is, and there may be no definitive "right" answer, but there is a general debate as to what defines a true no. 1. I was charged with being a "hater," and not wanting my ego hurt, or not wanting to be "wrong." For me, I simply believe what I believe, and others obviously believe the same way (whether on the Huddle or not). I've offered links, definitions and explanations. It's all that I can do. My bar is set high, and I'm not going to apologize for it.

That's great. He's a good football player. We were stupid to give him up considering what we got in return. But let's not act like there aren't people who believe that the Bears should trade down and take whom many believe is a generational talent (i.e., Harrison Jr.).

Trading down for Harrison has little to do with Moore. Having Harrison Jr and Moore would be a nightmare for defenses. They'll be gaining more assets in the trade down too. Imagine if Barkley or Henry sign a short term deal there.  QB and RB both can gut you in the run game and 2 wideouts that go for 1,000yards. Moore is under contract for 2 more years and fully in their plans. It makes me sick to see how little his cap hit will continue to be as the price for wideouts continues to go up.

Trading down has everything to do with gaining draft capital AND getting Harrison whom many think can be generational (i.e., a true no. 1).

    • It was both literally and figuratively a parade of horribles. 1)  Glut of coaching “talent” with designs that didn’t match the personnel and didn’t mesh with each other. 2) An o-line  I’ll-fitted for the scheme on the interior. Injuries compounded this critical weakness. Penetration on runs completely negated whatever zone dominance we tried to establish.  3) Lack of separation by the WR’s. A lack of speed and separation and filling the right roles led to some pretty embarrassing looks. We couldn’t win on multiple levels and it repeatedly trickled down. Also look to (2) because interior pass rush often limited the time for routes to develop. 4) Rookie qb with an average arm but degenerative mechanics. Those railing about arm strength are off. He can sling it with a solid base, and the time of release is plus. 5) as the season wore on, we saw more bailing on the pocket, more dancing, more tip toes . Which isn’t that weird given (1)-(3).    Finally, CJ had one of the best seasons ever for a rookie qb and we missed the pick. It has no bearing whatsoever on whether Bryce Young can be a successful NFL QB. I’ll say this: if the kid does rebound and proves himself, that’s the gamer you want leading your team.
