Panthers need to spend that Peppers money

I think Fowler is right on here. And if Richardson does spend the money, I would be ecstatic. Until I see it though, I am going to be skeptical that he doesn't put it in his pocket. And by not paying Kemo's 9.3 million dollar option, it will likely be closer to 30 million than 20 in instant savings.

they real question is....why would Jerry let Hurney/Fox spend the money in FA or get creative in the draft? Fox is heading into a lame duck season for a reason....as it will most likely be his last. The more moves they make....the more likely it could create more for the new coach to undo while creating a team that fits his mindset.

It depends on what you mean by 'spend.' If by that you mean we need to lock up Dwill, Davis, Beason, then yes, I would agree with you. Lets not forget how well we did two seasons ago. A 12-4 team and sky was the limit had Jake not screwed up in the playoffs against the Cardinals. The Panthers could have easily been in the Cardinals shoes had we not played so poorly against them... we might have been in our second Superbowl to years ago.

We dont need to be a Jerry Jones team and go out looking to spend big money on every big name FA every year. This team has great chemistry and honestly we are still a d*mn good team. With a healthy O-line, a healthy Davis, an emerging Brown and Johnson, upcoming Sharrod Martian, and hopefully a QB that can manage the game and avoid turning the ball over, we could easily be right back in the playoffs.

The team we have now can beat anyone, especially in the cold winter months when teams need to run the ball. We can run it, perhaps better than anyone behind a healthy O-line and two health backs. If Cory Irvin makes progress we will have ourselves and nice DT rotation and honestly I think Johnson has pro bowl potential and I think he can handle the run just fine. A healthy Davis along side Beason, and a solid seconday says Panthers have just as good of a shot as anyone if Matt Moore can manage games and just please DO NOt TURN THE BALL OVER. We dont need to put games on his shoulder, he just needs to play smart with the ball. As Steve Smith himself said, we can ride the coattails of Dwill and Jstew all the way.

I hope we dont spend too much money. Grab a WR in the draft, perhaps we will get lucky and have one of the top prospects fall to us. Lock up the players we already have long term and build on an already very good team.

Despite the way the offense was rolling that year (hard to expect to get what they gave us as it was outstanding).....entering the playoff game the DL was a big weakness the offense was struggling to overcome each week. The D was giving up around 30 pts the 2nd half of the season mainly b/c of no pass rush. No pass rush outside of Pep. This year the DL did a better job, mainly b/c Pep actually played better and the loss of Kemo.....if you take away Pep and this upcoming year it is going to be a nightmare w/ out some legit new bodies coming in.

I don't think we're going to spend all that money but I wish we would extend Smitty's contract so I don't have to worry about him leaving like Peppers. Smitty absolutely has to retire a Panthers, no question about it.

We already did that not too long ago, so he will be here for another 4 or 5 yrs. Smitty will pretty much retire here & no go anywhere like Pep. :)

And as for the money, I hope JR & others look at some important key elements to pay some playmakers. Wheter it signing Moore, a player from the Draft, etc.

I couldn't agree more. We just freed up a potential TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS. That is enough money to resign TD, Matt Moore, and Richard Marshall as well as extend Deangelo, Jstew, and Beason. Not that I think we will do all of that but we could do it all with that money.

I don't know what we are going to do with the money but judging by last season...we need some difference-makers starting with WRs and we have the money to do it now.

    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
