JR is on a mission....

Jesus, the same arguments keep coming up.

"Fire sale!"

No.

"Looking out for the NFL and not his own team!"

No; that's just stupid. He has a lot of money poured into the team; why would he intentionally shoot himself in the foot?

"Crippling the team to hurt Fox!"

No; he could just fire him, jesus.

"Prepping for lockout!"

Doubtful, as it would cost him money (lockout year).

"Prepping team for the future and possibly next year!"

Yes.

If JR's mission is to make a ton of subtractions and not make any additions just so he can save money in an uncapped year then he is succeeding. Make no bones about it. 2010 is all about saving $$$$. Winning is the last thing on his mind.

If that's so, how to you explain the signing of Wallace Wright? You can't spell winning without a "w" and Wallace Wright has 2 of them.

From my perspective its simple:

You either take a risk or stay conservative at this point. Richardson or whoever is calling the shots wants something new & young. Therefore, the FO is going to test our young guys and not let the Panthers become a place for rotting veterans (Thats the skins job).

Yeah, nice players who everyone loved and passed their prime are gone. People, if we drop players because of this, why pick up free agents in the same predicament?? Wait till after the draft to get all loopy. Our fan base needs to take a giant chill pill with some codine. ;)

Also (edit):

And the Wallace Wright scrub pick up is just to compensate for the recent releases. Its not like the guy is going to be starting for us.

However, the guys that will be replacing these players are not unexperienced.

Leonard and Tyler have been starters in the NFL.

Anderson has been here 4 years and has had many starts...playing well.

I will give you Brown....however, I still think we bring in a vet DE. Not a big name players, but much like we did with Brayton.

Hoover...I will give you this one. I love Hoover and I think he can still play. It is difficult to carry 3 FB's and you have to make a tough choice. They drafted Fiametta to replace Hoover, so you don't let a young player like that go. Sutton looked great at the end of last year. Hoover got caught up in a numbers game. His health and Salary made him expendable.

All of the defnsive line put together haven't started as many games as the least of the guys they let go. Tyler has started 18 games in his career. And Leonard has started 5. Brown and Charles Johnson combined have started a total of 5 games in their career. Yeah lots of experience. How many games has Anderson started? Yeah, ten games in a 4 year career. That doesn't qualify as many. Less than one season's worth.

Can they play as well as the starters they will replace? There is a reason they all were backups.

I get the youth movement, cutting old vets, and whatever. I am not deluding myself to believe we will be better, however. At least not with what we have. I think we will have growing pains and start out very slow on defense. I think this year will look like last year. Bad at first and hopefully better as the year progresses. We could very easily be a contender down the line. But a playoff team in 2010. Only if we have real success in the draft and picking some quality free agents rather than scrubs and castoffs. As Led Zeppelin once said- There is still time to change the road you are on.

If you want the coach gone, you fire the coach.

It seems JR has a alterior motive behind all of these cuts.. it seems as if he being "cheap" this season. We are not going after any decent FA's.. we are essentially waiting for the "value FA's" before we make any moves. It's possible that JR does not want to cut Fox, and still pay Fox his $5 million he is owed this season.. thus waiting to hire the new coach next season.. he really does seem like he is priming the team for new leadership.

It will be extremely tough on the coaching staff to produce a winning team this season with all the lack of playing time from the projected starters. Sure they have been in the league for a few years, but I agree, the starts are not there. The reps were limited, and you can only learn so much watching film.

All signs point to John Fox/Hurney not being here next season. He will need to have the best coaching job of his career and clinch at least a wild card spot to keep his job.

I can't recall the Eagles ever cutting this many contributing players in one season.

As a former (and 'somewhat' current Eagles fan), I need to remind you of Ray Rhodes entrance in 1995 when he completely overhauled the team! They went from 7-9 with Rich Kotite to 10-6 with Ray Rhodes, who won Coach of the Year.

I'll admit it works a lot better when the team can draft well late, and we --- historically - do a poor job of that which doesn't help.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
