What is the total Caps Savings as of right now?

Sure it's only been 48 hrs but they are freeing up some money like somebody who just got their first tax refund.

I know I know, they will find guys on the cheap like always and get diamonds in the rough and junk and be a contender.

I'm curious on the CAP # right now.

peppers counted close to 20 (Kemo and lewis - 10 for the season counting bonuses, Diggs and hoover 1.7 million.) not signing a host of other FA's back - around 5 + million. I'd say they've shaved around 8 million total counting Jake's cap hit and the tender's for the upcoming season.

Not bad at all.

This time next year, you guys will think JR or the new president, whomever is responsible for this purge, is a genius.

This uncapped year lets us get redemption for hanging on to too many folks that should have already been gone, and with no cap issues.

Next season, if there is a new CBA, we will have plenty of cash to resign any of the guys that show heart this season. And they had better show heart because it looks like if we get the new CBA, there will be twice the number of FA's on the market next year at this time. And the Bears and other big spenders will be able to do nothing because they have overspent on a very narrow list of FA this offseason.

So you all are thinking we are about $40 million under the cap based on last year's number which was what $113 milllion? I realize there is no cap this year, but I'm still trying to gather where the team stands in the players salaries.

Knowing the team insn't going to pay out any big money in FA and rookie contracts are maximum $3-$4 million collectively, I wonder if we have become the one of, if not THE, cheapest payroll in the NFL this season?

Thanks!!! *sigh*

Really, does anyone have an unfabricated number or a realistic estimation? By best estimates is $40 million what is being floated around because no one really knows outside of the front office?

Just for arguement sakes, say $10 million is spent on tenders and that $3 million is spent on rookie contracts in addition to a few veteran minimums for camp fodder at another $3 million, that would get the team payroll to around $80 million. By my recolection from last year's NFL cap figures, that would definitely put us in the top 5 cheapest payrolls.

    • I originally hated the Miller deal but with the cap projected to rise nearly $10M next season the Canes struck some pretty good deals between Miller and Ehlers. Most of the team is locked in for the next few years. Nikishin will need an extension probably in the $6M AAV range. And Blake will need one if we don’t move him. Personally I’d move Blake, picks, and any prospect not named Nikishin/Nadeau/Artamonov for McTavish as I don’t see any any of the big time players moving teams next year. Realistically the Hurricanes should just target Gustavsson next year to fix the goal tending issue. But I’m all for moving Blake, picks, and prospects for McTavish this year. Ehlers - Aho - Jarvis Svechnikov - McTavish - Stankoven Martinook - Staal - Carrier Hall - Kotkaniemi - Robinson Jost - Jankowski Slavin - Miller Nikishin - Chatfield Gostisbehere - Walker Reilly Andersen Kochetkov I’d do Blake, Felix-Unger-Sorum, and 27 2nd for McTavish.
    • Very true on the length but stuff like this is never where we shine. We aren’t a good team at drafting.
    • Homerism aside, the more I see from Dan, the more impressed I am.  His player evaluation instincts. Last year his 2 premier FA signings, Hunt and Lewis COMPLETELY changed the line and I have a feeling his success in choosing blue chip guys will continue.  Look at the panthers’s rep for FA signings in the past. By and large, it’s been guys 1 year past their prime who had an injury and suckered our GM in to a crippling contract. We never get nice things. When was the last time this team signed 2 young blue chip studs  in the same offseason to contracts worthy of their impact? Ever?  Im telling y’all, players respect and trust Morgan.
