Jarrett still sticking with Panthers

i still like Jarrett. he has done well with every opportunity he's been given.

we're talking about the coach who had Williams ride the bench for 2 full seasons behind Deshaun fuging Foster. the same coach who had Delhomme start 12 games last year.

when he makes a personnel decision, he sticks with it regardless of right or wrong. it very well could have nothing to do with Jarrett's skill.

Or who puts Charles Godfrey back in over Sherrod Martin despite evidence to the contrary.

Fox's stubbornness is one of my bigger pet peaves against him.

to be fair Godfrey really stepped his game up after having his job threatened. I still think Martin needs to be in there, he has a nose for the ball and we need that with our style of defense.

Jarrett has produced VERY WELL when given the chance.

I think with Moore we will see that USC standout everyone was happy to draft.

+ the dude is only like 23/24-- Very young and he is big!!!

I have high hopes for him..

and he is cheaper than anything out there-- not to mention he knows the system...

in the games he's played in:

30 games

35 receptions

414 yards

11.8 avg

1 touchdown

.85 receptions per game, 13.8 yards per game, .03 touchdowns per game

games he's started:

3 games

7 receptoins

56 yards

8 avg

0 touchdowns

2.33 receptions per game, 18.6 yards per game, 0 touchdowns per game

When he plays and Moore is at QB

5 games

5 receptions

68 yards

13.6 avg

1 TD

1 receptoin per game, 13.6 yards per game, .2 touchdowns per game

It's interesting to point out that all of this production came from the saints game, a game where the Saints rested their starters and had nothing to play for. All other game where the starters played he didn't produce at all. The tampa bay game of 07 didn't have the starters playing but he still didn't produce.

we're 13-17 when he plays, 1-2 when he starts.

San Diego 08, Arizona regular season (08 & 09) and the last saints game 09 are the only games where he has gotten over 20 yards and we have won. Any other game when he's produced we've been beaten by a healthy margin.

I hope he succeeds too but it's just flat out wrong to say he's produced VERY WELL when given the chance. Pure denial. I don't know why people keep making excuses for him. He hasn't played well or given any indication that he will play well. I hope he does but it doesn't look likely.

The only way we'll know if Jarrett has what it takes to start opposite of Smitty is to have him start all 16 games next year, and let him sink or swim. This is the final year of his contract, and you can bet your ass Fox plans to start Jarrett. So if you're holding out some delusional hope of us getting Brandon Marshall or someone else outside of the draft so that we can keep Jarrett buried in the corner of our roster like your retarded uncle at the family reunion, you might as well come to grips with reality. We've started 16 games with Keary Colbert even when he sucked ass, so you can bet your ass we're willing to give it a shot with Jarrett.

Well the way FA is going for us right now hell If we did start him it probably couldn't hurt as it looks like the FO is tanking this season for money reasons. At least so far?

Or who puts Charles Godfrey back in over Sherrod Martin despite evidence to the contrary.

Fox's stubbornness is one of my bigger pet peaves against him.

Yet when he came back Godfrey played MUCH better than he did before the injury (some time off to sit and watch for the first time in his career probably did him wonders...along with a young buck stepping up and threatening his job). Fox probably doesn't have quite the same disdain for Godfrey that many fans do (not necessarily talking about you Mr. Scot, just a general point)...perhaps it's the fact he actually watches film and knows what each players responsibility is.

I also think Fox still sees Martin as a CB on this team and didn't want to commit him to being our future starting FS. Remember, he was only moved to Safety after we had a rash of injuries in camp and Wesley failed to transition well. It was never about performance, just attrition and Martin's backgtround. And his injury in his first game at FS pretty much kept him from moving back to CB when everyone started getting healthy (although I think they also didn't want to jerk him around too much since he was a rookie)

With that said, I do agree that Fox does tend to be a bit too stubborn when it comes to replacing "his" guys. Although to be fair, in most cases there are legitimate reasons for him to not be 100% sold on the move. For example, Keeping Foster in over Williams. DeAngelo was still struggling with blitz pickups, and admittedly wasn't preparing properly. Also, as bad as Jake played this year, there were questions of how dedicated Moore was, and if he would have been any better...although I think he still should have at least given him a game to see, and give Jake time to try and get his head together.

I think the biggest problem with using stats as a way to guage Jarrett is that usually, when he was in the game, it was as a blocker, and the times he did go out in a pattern, he was the 3rd or 4th option...and how often has Jake ever gone to his 3rd or 4th option, not very.

I've seen some things I really like about Jarrett, and feel that he will be much better than many are assuming. Yet, I also do not want to go into the season banking on it. We definitely still need someone to battle with him for the #2 spot...preferably someone with speed and quickness. I also would like someone to come in as the #3 or #4 receiver, depending on how Jarrett progresses (unless they feel somone already on the roster like Kenny Moore or Charly Martin can effectively step into that role).

My biggest concern with Jarrett isn't his ability to run routes or catch passes. It's his ability to block in the running game. Moose was/is one of the best blocking WR in the NFL and was a part of the success of the running game. With the way this team is build, that is actually more important than catching the ball.

Since Moose is in a league of his own, (blocking), Jarrett needs to be compared to the other receivers in the league. Alas, he is 23/24 he could still get better at blocking.
